    Abstract: La presente invencion describe un proceso para obtener una pez mesofásica muy limpio a partir de pez isotropico. Esta invencion utiliza un procedimiento de fraccionamiento mediante disolvente, el cual no involucra las etapas de proceso, pérdidas de rendimiento, y generacion de desperdicio asociadas con la adicion de fundentes y filtracion de la pez isotropico. Adicionalmente, esta invencion provee un proceso de extraccion líquido/líquido que evita el manejo de solidos y las altas temperaturas y presiones de la extraccion de fluidos supercrítica. Finalmente, esta invencion controla la dureza del producto mesofásico.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a process for thermosetting pitch fibers in reduced times, at low concentrations of oxygen and at higher temperatures than previously possible. Additionally, the present invention provides a pitch fiber which has an oxygen diffusion rate to the center of the fiber which is competitive with the rate of oxidation at the fiber's surface. Further, the present invention provides a high density pitch fiber batt which thermosets without loss of fiber structure.
