Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin having a low crystal m.p., excellent crystallinity and excellent hardness and suited as a hydraulic vacuum servo substance, plastic clay, a medical gypsum or the like, by adding a specified epi-bis epoxy resin to epsilon-caprolactone and polymerizing it by ring opening. CONSTITUTION:0.01-5.0pts.wt. epi-bis epoxy resin (B) of the formula (wherein n is 0-5) as a hydrolysis inhibitor is added to predehydrated epsilon-caprolactone (A) of a water content

Abstract: PURPOSE:In the ring-opening polymerization of epsilon-caprolactone, a specific epi-bis type epoxy resin is added at a specific ratio to give the titled polymer which is used as a medical gypsum, a splinting material and a templating material. CONSTITUTION:Epsilon caprolactone, preferably of less than 0.02% moist content, is stirred under heating in the presence of 0.01-5.0pts.wt. of an epi-bis type epoxy compound of the formula, preferably n is zero, namely diglycidyl ether bisphenol A and a catalyst such as stannous chloride, generally in a nitrogen gas atmosphere at 120-220 deg.C to effect the ring-opening polymerization to give the objective polymer. The compound of the formula may be admixed to the monomer previously or immediately before or after polymerization while the polymerization degree is still low.

Abstract: PURPOSE:Poly-epsilon-caprolactone resin, obtained by adding a specific amount of carbodiimide to poly-epsilon-caprolactone, having improved hydrolysis preventing properties and most suitable to medical gyps, splint materials, etc., without causing reduction in polymerization during storage. CONSTITUTION:Poly-epsilon-caprolactone resin obtained by adding (B) 0.05-5pts.wt. carbodiimide expressed by the formula (R and R' are 1-24C hydrocarbon group; m is an integer >=1), preferably N-N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide, to (A) poly-epsilon- caprolactone, obtained by ring opening polymerizing epsilon-caprolactone in the pres ence of an initiator, e.g. a compound having active hydrogen atom such as water or ethylene glycol, and a catalyst, e.g. tetramethoxytitanium or tetraethoxytitanium, while stirring and heating at 120-220 deg.C and having 10,000-200,000 number-average molecular weight and melt kneading both components (A) and (B).
