Abstract:
An apparatus is disclosed for producing a band of generally rectangular cross section having at least two layers of material comprising means for advancing a first band along a predetermined linear path and means for guiding a second band into layered alignment with said first band including a roll (23, 32) around which said second band is partially wrapped prior to contacting said first band, the second band having an initial tangential contact position with said roll along a line on the surface thereof extending generally axially with respect to the roll, the roll being tiltable in a plane defined by the axis thereof and the initial tangential contact position of the second band, whereby the lateral take-off position of the second band may be controlled by tilting the roll so as to guide it into aligned juxtaposition with the first band to form a layered, substantially rectangular tow band.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a nonionic cold mix emulsion and preparation thereof. More particularly, the present invention relates to a cosmetic composition in the form of a cream preparation which comprises a discontinuous phase dispersed in a continuous phase. The continuous phase contains water, an emulsifier, and at least one oxidizing agent. The discontinuous phase contains salts of fatty acid esters of lactylic acid, saturated monoglycerides and propylene glycol monoesters. The emulsions are particularly suitable as components of oxidizing preparations for the bleaching of hair and for the dying of hair with oxidation hair dyes and hair bleaches.
Abstract:
Disclosed are thermosetting, powder coating compositions comprised of a coreactive mixture of hydroxylated acrylic copolymers, hydroxylated aliphatic polyesters, and a blocked isocyanate. The powder coating exhibits excellent QUV weatherability and toughness.
Abstract:
An integrating cylinder for use as an illuminator for a film scanner includes a hollow cylinder including an inner surface defining a cavity therein and an outer surface, a diffusing layer of reflective material covering an inner surface of the hollow cylinder, a first end plate for sealing a near end of the hollow cylinder, and a second end plate for sealing a far end of the hollow cylinder opposite the near end. The hollow cylinder defines a slit formed parallel to a longitudinal axis of the hollow cylinder between the inner and outer surfaces at a predetermined line along a circumference of the hollow cylinder. The first end plate defines a hole which is decentered from the longitudinal axis of the hollow cylinder and can be tilted at a predetermined angle to the longitudinal axis of the hollow cylinder towards an area of the inner surface of the hollow cylinder. Additionally, the hole is located at a predetermined angular separation around the circumference of the hollow cylinder from the slit for receiving a light beam directed at the predetermined angle to the longitudinal axis into the cavity. After reflections in the cavity, the light emerges from the slit to form a line of uniform diffuse light.
Abstract:
This invention provides cellulose ester fibers having an intermediate degree of substitution per anhydroglucose unit (DS/AGU) along with pigments which act as photooxidation catalysts. The fibers are useful as filter materials for tobacco products. The filter materials thus provided are easily dispersible and biodegradable and do not persist in the environment.
Abstract:
A stabilizing bath that provides image stability and uniform drainage of excess fluid to prevent drying spots and that reduces or eliminates the formation of residue on the base side of color negative films is comprised of hexamethylenetetramine, a nonionic polyethoxylated surfactant, and an anionic sulfate of sulfonate surfactant. The stabilizing bath is used as the final processing bath prior to drying. The nonionic surfactant provides uniform drainage of excess fluid and the anionic sulfate or sulfonate surfactant functions to reduce or eliminate the formation of residue on the base side of color negative films.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a system for producing a photographic dispersion by mixing two solutions, one aqueous solution and one oily solution. The system comprises a closed and pressurized reactor for oily solution, an open reactor for the aqueous solution, a turbine-type pump, load cells, control valves, and a computer means associated to a control algorithm.
Abstract:

Abstract:
Melt processable copolyesters having improved thermal stability are prepared from 1,4-butanediol, minor amounts of trans-4,4'-stilbenedicarboxylic acid and trans- or cis-1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid.
Abstract:
Cleaning of a product in strip or sheet form. The device is characterised in that: the electrode is enclosed in an insulating housing (20) connected to the said channel by an antihalo duct (30), the housing is swept by a weak flow of air, so as to carry away the ions on the moving strip. Application to unexposed photosensitive products.
