Abstract: 1437301 Flame-proof polyolefin compositions HOECHST AG and RUHRCHEMIE AG 20 June 1974 [4 Aug 1973] 27404/74 Addition to 1389994 Heading C3P The flame proof moulding compositions of Specification 1,389,994 comprising a polyolefin and up to 30 weight per cent of flame retardants comprising red phosphorus and at least one organic nitrogen compound which carbonizes after inflammation in a weight ratio of 99 : 1 to 1 : 99, are modified in that they contain as stabilizer (a) 1 to 10% by weight of the flame retardants of amidosulphonic acid or ammonium bisulphate, or (b) 5 to 15% by weight of the red phosphorus of a paraffin oil of density 0À83 to 0À88 g./cc. and a viscosity of 15 to 380 cp. at 18‹ C., a mineral oil boiling in the range 170‹ to 350‹ C. or a silicone oil, or (c) 20 to 50% by weight of the nitrogen compound of pentaerythritol. Examples describe compositions of polyethylene, red phosphorus, melamine or polyacrylonitrile and ammonium bisulphate, amidosulphonic acid, pentaerythritol, paraffin oil, mineral oil, silicone-polyether block copolymer oil and mixtures of paraffin oil with ammonium bisulphate or amidosulphonic acid.

Abstract: A thermoplastic molding composition is composed of a linear poly(oxymethylene) and a graft copolymer the side chains of which consist essentially of oxymethylene groups. The said graft copolymer acts as a nucleating agent; its effectiveness is dependent on its amount, molecular weight and degree of grafting. Molded articles made of said composition show improved mechanical properties.
