Abstract: Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed to improve video encoding. An example apparatus includes at least one memory, instructions, and processor circuitry to generate a pool of clipping index set candidates by executing a machine learning model, select a clipping index set from the pool of the clipping index set candidates based on a rate distortion cost associated with the clipping index set, the clipping index set including clipping coefficients, and filter a video frame based on the clipping coefficients.

Abstract: An embodiment may include a display processor, memory to store a 2D frame corresponding to a projection from a 360 video, and a quality selector to select a quality factor for a block of the 2D frame based on quality information from neighboring blocks of the 2D frame, including blocks which are neighboring only in the 360 video space. The system may also include a range adjuster to adjust a search range for the 2D frame based on a search area of the 2D frame, a viewport manager to determine if a request for a viewport of the 2D frame extends beyond a first edge of the 2D frame and to fill the requested viewport with wrap-around image information, and/or a motion estimator to estimate motion information based on both color information and depth information. Other embodiments are disclosed and claimed.

Abstract: Systems and methods for determining quantization parameter (QP) for video coding. Embodiments may be particularly advantageous for strongly temporal correlated frames, such as for video conferencing applications. An initial QP for a frame of a video sequence may be modified based on a spatial complexity or a temporal complexity associated with the video frame, and/or based on an inter-predicted frame bitrate target cycle, as a function of whether the frame is intra- or inter-predicted. The inter-predicted frame bitrate target cycle includes a sequence of two or more inter-predicted frame bitrate targets that are assigned to the frame according to the inter-predicted frame bitrate target cycle. A reference frame for an inter-predicted frame may be selected based on the bitrate target associated with candidate reference frames. Initial QP of an inter-predicted frame with a scene change may be modified in a manner independent of an inter-predicted frame bitrate target cycle.

Abstract: Techniques related to selecting restoration filter coefficients for 2-dimensional loop restoration filters for super resolution video coding are discussed. Such techniques include upscaling reconstructed video frames along only a first dimension and selecting filter coefficients for portions of the frame by an evaluation that, for each pixel of the portion, uses only pixel values that are aligned with the first dimension. Selection of filter coefficients for the second dimension may be skipped or made using only a subset of available filter coefficients.

The method comprises obtaining an initial bit allocation ratio, estimating a temporal correlation, and adjusting the initial bit allocation ratio based on the temporal correlation.
