    Abstract: PURPOSE:To set line pressure neither too much nor too less corresponding to the transmission torque of a transmission with good accuracy by controlling the line pressure according to a difference between an engine torque detected value and a pump loss torque detected value of an oil pump. CONSTITUTION:A control unit 71, to which signals of various sensors 72 77 are input, is adapted to calculate a speed ratio in a torque converter 4 from a turbine rotating frequency and an engine rota-ting frequency, calculate a torque converter output torque TTO with the speed ratio as a parameter, and set a target secondary pressure from the output torque and the speed ratio. Further the control unit obtains an output torque TE of an engine 2 obtained from the engine rotating frequency and a throttle opening and a loss torque Tp in an oil pump 19 obtained from the engine rotating frequency and the target secondary pressure, and controls the line pressure to a secondary pulley 30 according to the difference (TE-Tp) by a regulator valve 49. Thus, the line pressure can be controlled neither too much nor too less.
