Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound, an industrial useful raw material, by a direct one-stage process advantageously without using a large-sized production device, by oxidizing 1,3-butadiene with molecular oxygen in the presence of iodine, etc. and a transition metal of 8 group as a catalyst in an organic solvent containing water. CONSTITUTION:Two components of iodine or iodine compound and a transition metal of 8 group are used as a catalyst, 1,3-butadiene is reacted with molecular oxygen in an organic solvent containing water at 50-250 deg.C, preferably 70-150 deg.C at 10-200kg/cm , to give the titled compound. The amount of water used in preferably 1-10mol based on 1mol butadiene. The catalyst consists of the two components,the first component is the transition metal of 8 group, its amount used is especially 0.005-0.05 based on 1mol butadiene, and the second component is iodine or iodine compound, its amount used is preferably 0.05-5g atom calculated as iodine atom based on 1g atom of the transition metal of 8 group.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compounds useful as raw materials of perfumery and amino acids, etc., from low-cost raw materials, in one step, in high selectivity, by the gas-phase reaction of benzene with 2-aminoethyl alcohol in the presence of a catalyst containing VIII-group metals, etc. CONSTITUTION:Benzene is made to react with 2-aminoethyl alcohol in the presence of a catalyst containing VIII-group metals, Ib-group metals, zinc salts and/or cadmium salts, pref. at 250-400 deg.C to obtain indoline and/or indole from the low-cost raw materials in one step in high selectivity. The raw materials are fed to the reactor as vapor-phase or liquid-phase at a liquid space velocity to the catalyst of 0.01-5l/l- catalyst/hr and a benzene : ethanolamine molar ratio of 1:(0.05-5). The obtained indoline can be converted easily to indole useful as a raw material of perfumery, amino acids, etc.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material of perfumery and amino acids, in one step, easily, in an improved yield, from N-beta-hydroxyethylaniline available at low cost, by carrying out the reaction in the presence of a catalyst containing a VIII-group metal. CONSTITUTION:The titled compound is prepared by the gas phase reaction of N-beta-hydroxyethylaniline or its nucleus-substituted derivative, e.g. N-beta-hydroxyethyl-o-toluidine in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metal of the VIII group of the periodic table, i.e. Fe, Co, Ni, Pd, Pt, etc., a mixture of two or more of the above metals, or a mixture of the metal and other compounds, and pref. in the presence of ethylene glycol and/or aniline. The molar ratio of ethylene glycol to the raw material is 0.01-10 to 1, pref. 0.1-1 to 1.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material of perfumery and amino acids, with a single stage process and low production of by-products, in high purity and selectivity, by the gas phase reaction of an aniline available at an extremely low cost with ethylene glycol in the presence of a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound id obtained by the gas phase reaction of (A) an aniline such as aniline, o-toluidine, etc. with (B) ethylene glycol in the presence of (C) a catalyst containing cadmium sulfate and/or zinc sulfate. The amount of ethylene glycol is pref. 0.01-5mol, esp. 0.05-2mol per 1mol of the aniline. The cadmium sulfate and zinc sulfate can be used singly or as a mixture. The catalyst may be incorporated with other compounds such as a halide, nitrate, etc. of lithium, sodium, molybdenum, etc.

An amide solvent, preferably N-methyl-pyrrolidone, may be cited as the polar organic solvent.
