Abstract:
Subscriber power levels are adjusted to enhance interference cancellation in a DS-CDMA communication system. A base-station of the communication system receives signals from a plurality of subscribers and evaluates each signal. Based on the evaluation, particular subscribers are commanded to control their power levels such that different predetermined targets for the particular subscribers are maintained. The predetermined targets include, but are not limited to, received power, frame erasure rate, bit error rate and signal quality. The resulting power levels received at the base-station are substantially different, which is beneficially employed to enhance interference cancellation in the DS-CDMA communication system.
Abstract:
A wireless communication system (10) provides unsolicited content (40) to a wireless device (12) by using a network element (14) that contains logic circuitry that sends unsolicited content for the wireless device (12), without request by the wireless device (12) and during a non-peak period of operation of the wireless communication system (10). The network element (14) logs a billing event associated with the unsolicited content (40) in response to wireless device use indication data (42) that represents that the wireless device (12) used the unsolicited content (40) at a later time.

A method and apparatus for a disposable mobile communication device having a destructively removable radio module (120). The mobile communication device (100) can include a disposable frame (110), a radio module (120) coupled to the disposable frame, the radio module being irreplaceably removable from the disposable frame, an audio input module (130) coupled to the disposable frame and the radio module, an audio output module (140) coupled to the disposable frame and the radio module, a power supply module (160) coupled to the disposable frame and the radio module, and an antenna (150) coupled to the disposable frame and the radio module. The radio module can include a radio baseband processing module, an input, and an output.
Abstract:
A method for receiving a radio communication in a radio communication system (100) shares the downlink processing burden among members of a local group of local stations. The method includes receiving the radio communication (302) at a first mobile station (304) of a plurality of mobile stations (300). The method further includes transmitting a local radio communication (306) from the first mobile station to an intended recipient mobile station (308) of the plurality of mobile stations.
Abstract:
A method for receiving a radio communication in a radio communication system (100) shares the downlink processing burden among members of a local group of local stations when receiving an alert communication such as a paging channel. The method includes receiving the alert communication (302) at a first mobile station (304) of a plurality of mobile stations (300). The method further includes transmitting a local radio communication (306) from the first mobile station to an intended recipient mobile station (308) of the plurality of mobile stations.
Abstract:
A method in a wireless communications network connected to a packet network including receiving (410) at a packet server handover information, e.g., neighbor measurements, from a wireless communications device, negotiating (420) with the radio communications network, e.g., with a base station controller, for a radio resource transfer for a mobile wireless communications device, and sending (440), from the packet server, radio resource information to the mobile wireless communications device.
Abstract:
A terminal 300 arranged to initiate a call or indicate an incoming call with a voiced alert and methods thereof, the terminal including a receiver 303 for receiving a signal corresponding to a call alert, a processor 309 for determining that the signal is a call alert signal corresponding to the voiced alert and for providing an alert signal corresponding to the voiced alert; and an audio transducer 317 coupled to the alert signal corresponding to the voiced alert for generating a user perceptible voiced alert. The terminal for initiating includes an audio transducer 321 for converting a caller party voiced signal to an alert signal and a processor 309 for generating a call alert signal corresponding to the alert signal; and a transmitter 305 for sending the call alert signal corresponding to the alert signal to a network and thereby to the called party.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for improving performance of a wireless communication network (11) obtains air interface resource capability data (26), from a wireless device (12) or other source, and determines if the obtained air interface resource capability data (26) of the wireless device (12) warrants a reward by the wireless communication network (11). If the air interface resource capability data (26) of the wireless device (12) warrants a reward, the system operator, through a network element (16) or other suitable device provides a reward associated with the wireless device. This may include, for example, a financial reward, such as a reduction in cost for air time, billing credit or a performance improvement such as a reduction in frame error rate that is used when the wireless device (12) is in communication with the wireless communication network (11).
Abstract:
A wireless communication system ( 10 ) provides unsolicited content ( 40 ) to a wireless device ( 12 ) by using a network element ( 14 ) that contains logic circuitry that sends unsolicited content for the wireless device ( 12 ), without request by the wireless device ( 12 ) and during a non-peak period of operation of the wireless communication system ( 10 ). The network element ( 14 ) logs a billing event associated with the unsolicited content ( 40 ) in response to wireless device use indication data ( 42 ) that represents that the wireless device ( 12 ) used the unsolicited content ( 40 ) at a later time.
