Abstract:
A hand vacuum cleaner has an air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet. An air treatment member and suction motor are positioned in the air flow path. The hand vacuum cleaner includes an onboard energy storage unit and has a pistol grip handle. When the hand vacuum cleaner is oriented with its upper end above its lower end, the pistol grip handle is located at the rear end of the hand vacuum cleaner, the energy storage unit is located at the lower end of the hand vacuum cleaner with the suction motor located above the front end of the energy storage unit and the pistol grip handle located above the rear end of the energy storage unit. A finger grip area may be provided between the handle and the suction motor above the energy storage unit.
Abstract:
An appliance, such as a portable surface cleaning apparatus is powered by one or more ultracapacitors and a charging unit for same is provided.
Abstract:
A cyclonic air treatment member comprises a cyclone and a dirt collection chamber external to the cyclone chamber. The cyclone chamber extends longitudinally in an axial direction between a cyclone first end and a cyclone second end. The cyclone chamber includes an axially extending dirt outlet. A removable dirt outlet insert member may be removably receivable by a portion of the dirt outlet.
Abstract:
A surface cleaning apparatus has a first air flow path extending from a dirty air inlet to a clean air outlet with a suction motor and a cyclone positioned in the first air flow path. The cyclone has a cyclone chamber, a first airflow passage, and a second airflow passage. The first airflow passage defines a first tangential air inlet to the cyclone chamber and the second airflow passage defines a second tangential air inlet to the cyclone chamber. The airflow path includes a common airflow passage upstream of the first and second airflow passages and an axis of the common airflow passage intersects the cyclone chamber. At least a portion of the first tangential air inlet is positioned upstream from a location at which the common airflow passage axis intersects the cyclone chamber.
Abstract:
A cooking apparatus includes a cooking chamber having one or more cooking zones. One or more of a heating element, an air mover, and a steam generator may be associated with one or more of the cooking zones.
Abstract:
An expansion compensator has an elongate metal conduit and an inner plastic liner, each with first and second spaced apart ends and an expansion/contraction section, and an interior volume extending from the first end to the second end. Connectors may be provided at the first and second ends. The metal conduit may have a longitudinal stiffness greater than the stiffness of the plastic liner. Methods for producing an expansion compensator by: providing an inner plastic liner; positioning the inner plastic liner interior of an elongate metal conduit, the elongate metal conduit having an expansion/contraction section; applying pressure to a fluid positioned in an interior volume of the inner plastic liner while the inner plastic liner is at or above a forming temperature to expand the inner plastic liner whereby the expanded inner plastic liner has an expansion/contraction section; and cooling the inner plastic liner to below the forming temperature.

Abstract:
An autonomous surface cleaning apparatus has a dirt enclosing member providing a first closed container and a depositing member which deposits the closed container at a location that is exterior to the autonomous surface cleaning apparatus.
Abstract:
A household appliance has an air flow path extending from an air inlet to an air outlet with a fan and motor assembly in the air flow path. The fan and motor assembly comprises a motor drivingly connected to a rotating fan blade subassembly. The fan and motor assembly is adjustable between a first configuration in which the rotating fan blade subassembly provides a first level of air flow and a first level of suction and a second configuration in which the rotating fan blade subassembly provides a second level of air flow and a second level of suction wherein the first level of air flow is higher than the second level of air flow and the second level of suction is higher than the first level of suction.
