Abstract: An optical disc medium compares a track groove, along which main information is recorded. The track groove is divided into a plurality of blocks. The plurality of blocks each includes a plurality of frames. The plurality of frames each includes one shape of wobbles indicating sub information, among a plurality of prescribed shapes of wobbles. The plurality of blocks each has address information. The address information is represented by a string of at least one piece of sub information represented by the shape of wobbles of at least one of the plurality of frames.

Abstract: An optical disk and a method for identifying the optical disk are provided which make it possible to identify a recording system of the optical disk easily in a short time by a recording and reproduction apparatus when a groove-recording system and a land-recording system are both employed in one kind of optical disk, for, example, a BD-R. Specifically, the polarity upon reproducing the wobble information is made to be the same in both of the optical disk of groove-recording system and the optical disk of land-recording system. The recording system of the optical disk that shows the same wobble polarity irrespective of the recording system can be easily detected by finding a tracking polarity that can recognize the wobble information by changing the tracking polarity, whereby the start-up time of the recording and reproduction apparatus can be shortened.

Abstract: With the disc-shaped recording medium, or the disc manufacturing method according to the present invention, for both the single-layer disc and the multi-layer disc, a recording layer L 0 , which is to be the first layer, is at the same distance, along the direction of disc thickness, from the surface of the cover layer CVLs on which falls the laser light. For the multi-layer disc, the second layer L 1 and the following layer(s) are formed at the locations which are closer to the cover layer CVLs than the first layer L 0 . Management information may be recorded by mobbling grooves, each layermay have tert areas, defect information, a replacement area. Thus, it is possible to improve compatibility, reliability and accessibility between a single-layer disc and a multi-layer disc. The spherical aberration for the recording/reproducing light may be controlled with respect to the selected layer.

Abstract: An optical disc with a spiral or concentric track has a groove formed with a sinusoidal wobble along the track and a sector block disposed along the track. Sectors are formed by dividing each sector block into a plurality of parts. A synchronization mark on the disc is formed in the first sector in each sector block. Positive marks or negative marks on the discs are formed in sectors other than the first sector in each sector block. Each positive mark is a first groove discontinuity creating a discontinuity of a first width W1 in the track direction of the groove. Each negative mark is a second groove discontinuity creating a discontinuity of a second width W0 in the track direction of the groove. Each synchronization mark is a third groove discontinuity creating a discontinuity of a third width Ws in the track direction.
