Abstract: First codebook 61 and second codebook 62 respectively have two subcodebooks, and in respective codebooks, addition sections 66 and 67 obtain respective excitation vectors by adding sub-excitation vectors fetched from respective two subcodebooks. Addition section 68 obtains an excitation sample by adding those excitation vectors. According to the aforementioned constitution, it is possible to store sub-excitation vectors with different characteristics in respective sub-codebooks. Therefore, it is possible to correspond to input signals with various characteristics, and achieve excellent sound qualities at the time of decoding.

Con este dispositivo de filtrado espectral, una unidad de división de sub-bandas (102) divide un espectro de entrada en varias sub-bandas; una unidad de cálculo de valores representativos (103) calcula un valor representativo para cada sub-banda usando una media aritmética y una media geométrica; con respecto a cada valor representativo, una unidad de conversión no lineal (104) lleva a cabo una conversión no lineal cuya característica se enfatiza más al incrementarse el valor; y una unidad de filtrado (105) que filtra el valor representativo que ha sido sometido a la conversión no lineal para cada sub-banda, en el dominio de frecuencias.

Abstract: A vector quantizer which improves the accuracy of vector quantization in switching over a vector quantization codebook on a first stage depending on the type of feature having the correlation with a quantization target vector. In the vector quantizer, a classifier (101) generates classification information representing a type of narrowband LSP vector having the correlation with wideband LSP (Line Spectral Pairs) out of the plural types. A first codebook (103) selects one sub-codebook corresponding to the classification information as a codebook used for the quantization of the first stage from plural sub-codebooks (CBa1 to CBan) corresponding to each of the types of narrowband LSP vectors. A multiplier (107) multiplies the quantization residual vector of the first stage inputted from an adder (104) by a scaling factor corresponding to the classification information out of plural scaling factors stored in a scaling factor determining section (106) and outputs it to an adder (109) as the quantization target of a second stage.

Abstract: The present invention provides a vector quantization apparatus and method for a parameter vector obtained by an LPC analysis of an input speech signal, the apparatus comprising an LPC analyzing section, a conversion section, a target vector extracting section, a first quantizing section that performs a first stage of the coding of the target vector using a first code vector stored in a first codebook, an amplifier storing section, and a second quantizing section, wherein the amplifier storing section outputs the scalar predetermined to be used, when the first code vector is used in the second quantizing section. The apparatus and method provided an improvement in the subjective quality and also the object of value of a coded or decoded speech. The present apparatus and method may be used and applied to the low bit rate speech coding technique used in a cellular phone, or a music coder or an image coder.
