A process for the management of a flow of products along a plant for making and packing respective articles, in particular in the form of rolls, such as rolls of toilet paper or paper towels, an apparatus for making and packing the articles, in particular including one or more lines for making and packing the articles, a rewinding machine for making the semi-finished product and elements for accumulating or storing the semi-finished products, from which the making and packing apparatus, that is, the respective making and packing line, receives the semi-finished product and which, in turn, receives the semi-finished product from the rewinding machine for making a semi-finished product. According to the process, the respective operating speed of the respective line of the making and packing apparatus downstream is adjusted in such a way that the semi-finished product in the accumulation elements is kept around a predetermined filling level.

A conveyor (10) of the type with articulated links (12) comprises means (11) for supporting and guiding an endless conveyor belt (13) which has an upper, product feed stretch and a lower, return stretch. Each link comprises a portion (14) for supporting the product and which, at the front and rear transversal edges of it (23a, 23b), has longitudinal protrusions on it, being transversely outer protrusions (26, 28; 34, 36) and transversely inner protrusions (24; 30, 32) relative to each other. The longitudinal protrusions are designed to be inserted into matching recesses in the adjacent links and laterally delimit matching recesses on them, being transversely outer recesses (27, 29; 35, 37) and transversely inner recesses (25; 31, 33), respectively, for receiving matching protrusions on the adjacent links. The outer recesses (35, 37) on the front edge (23a) of the link have respective transversal end faces (35a, 37a) which are longitudinally next to or in front of the respective end faces (31a, 33a) of the central recesses (31, 33), whilst the outer recesses (27, 29) on the rear edge (23b) of the link, have respective transversal end faces (27a, 29a) which are longitudinally behind the end face (25a) of the central recess (25).

An apparatus (010) for packing a group of items, in which the items are preferably packs containing respective products, in a special wrapper formed by a plastic film comprises means for supplying groups of items, means for feeding a wrapping film, and means for wrapping the group of items in the wrapper. The wrapping means comprise means for forming a tubular film (019) for wrapping the group of items, starting with a film being fed and means for inserting a plurality of items in the tunnel forming tubular film (019) forming means.

An apparatus (10) for conveying items (12, 14) comprising a sustaining frame (16), a belt (18) for supporting and advancing said items (12, 14), first and second means (20, 22) for laterally guiding said items advancing on said belt (18), said first and second guiding means being supported by said frame (16) and being transversely separated from each other by a distance corresponding to the width of the items to be guided (12, 14). Means are provided for varying the distance between said first and second guiding means (20, 22) in such a way as to adapt it to the size of the supported items.

A unit (300) for the control or management of products, in particular packs, is preferably usable in a plant for making respective articles (11), in particular defined by rolls (111) of paper material, the plant (10) preferably comprising at least one operating line including at least one upstream section (1) for making the articles, in particular in the form of a log saw for cutting rolls off respective elongate logs, at least one respective packaging section (2), in particular for primary packaging, preferably in the form of a packing section where the articles or rolls are packed and preferably at least one or more further packaging sections, in particular in the form of at least one bagging section (3) where the packs are placed in bags and/or one palletizing section (4) where the packs or bags are placed on pallets; the plant comprising a conveying section (5), or means, by which the products are transported between one section of the plant and another, in particular between the means (1) which make the articles and the respective packaging section (2) and/or between one packaging section and another downstream; the plant being provided with process control means for controlling the functioning of the plant sections. The unit comprises means for detecting and/or lighting a respective face of the product or pack and which are adapted to produce different images of the respective product face, in particular which exhibit different states of reflection of the light that is incident upon the respective product face.
