Abstract: Method and apparatus for data packet transport in a wireless transmission system supporting broadcast transmissions. A trigger recognized at the transmission node initiates a broadcast transmission, and the resultant set up of a transmission path. A termination trigger then indicate that the transmission node is not serving users desiring the broadcast transmission, and in response the transmission part is shut down. In one embodiment, a multi-cast call, such as a group call, may be transmitted to active users via uni-cast channel(s) based on a predetermined criteria, such as number of active users.

Abstract: An apparatus (102, 104) for transmitting a stream of information bytes, the apparatus (102, 104) includes a mechanism (604, 618, 638) for receiving/transmitting a message specifying a radio link protocol, RLP, round-trip time, RTT, estimate, and a mechanism (604) for conducting an RLP communication session using said RTT estimate to determine negative acknowledgment, NAK, message timing. A first RLP RTT estimate can be established during service negotiation, and is used to determine NAK message timing in a subsequent RLP communication session. Alternatively, a 3-way handshake is performed for generating a first RTT estimate associated with the first RLP communication session, a second RTT estimate, based on the first RTT estimate, associated with a second RLP communication session is established during service negotiation. The second RLP RTT estimate is used to determine NAK message timing in a subsequent RLP communication session.

Abstract: The present invention is a novel and improved method and system that prevents RLP3E from generating unnecessary NAKs, thus preventing unnecessary data frame retransmissions. The present invention is efficient, neither delaying the delivery of data frames to the higher data services layer nor delaying the delivery of necessary NAKs to the multiplex sublayer. Additionally, the present invention can be implemented with minimal changes to an existing RLP3E implementation. The present invention is applicable to systems such as cdma2000, W-CDMA, and EDGE, wherein data is transferred using an ARQ (automatic request for retransmission) mechanism, and wherein data packets are sometimes received in an order different from that in which they were transmitted.

Abstract: A method for preventing unnecessary negative acknowledgement frames in Radio Protocol Type 3, comprising: receiving, on a first supplemental channel, Radio Link Protocol Type 3 frames having a first frame length; receiving, on a second supplemental channel, Radio Link Protocol Type 3 frames having a second frame length, wherein the second frame length is different from the first frame length; delivering the frames having the first frame length and the frames having the second frame length from a multiplex sublayer to a frame reordering sublayer; buffering, by the frame reordering sublayer, of the frames until all frames transmitted prior to a current frame have been received; determining, by the frame reordering sublayer, the order in which the frames were transmitted from a peer such that negative acknowledgement frames are not generated by unsequentially received frames; reordering of the frames, by the frame reordering sublayer, in the order the frames were transmitted from the peer by means of timers and/or counters; and delivering the reordered frames to a Radio Link Protocol Type 3 sublayer.

Abstract: Transmission characteristics of digital networks make the direct use of analog fax machines on a digital network unfeasible. A method and apparatus for interfacing between an analog fax machine and a digital network is described. A communication session over the digital network is controlled by an interface connected to the fax machine, the method for controlling the communication session comprising the steps of: receiving a plurality of signals from the fax machine; converting a predetermined subset of the plurality of signals into a plurality of digital signals; and commuicating with a remote station using the plurality of digital signals, wherein the remote station is connected to a destination fax machine. To deter dropped calls, interface lowers transmission rate of fax data from transmitting fax machine below actual data rate capability of network and receiving fax machine. In addition, interface delays transmission of fax data from transmitting fax machine by sending false Failure to Train messages during training.
