Abstract: The process and apparatus of the present invention limits the output power of a radiotelephone, operating in a cellular system in the preferred embodiment. This ensures the transmitted sidebands and synthesizer phase noise remains within a certain specification. This is accomplished by power detection and a correction accumulator that together generate a gain control signal by limiting the gain adjustment to a maximum value, even when the cell site communicating with the radiotelephone is sending power turn-up commands to the radiotelephone. This process includes dynamically correcting the output level of the transmitter due to gain variations in the transmitter stages or gain control elements.

Abstract: A system and method for parallel programming an electronic device's memory during manufacturing. In one embodiment, the electronic device is programmed in parallel with test code and a portion of the system code prior to board level testing. The test code is then used during board level testing of the electronic device. Once board level testing is complete, the electronic device is programmed with additional system code to complement the existing system code, whereby system level testing is then performed.

Abstract: A communication device including a power key located on an outer surface of the housing which may provide multiple functions, but is resistant to initiation of undesired handset functions. Control circuitry within the communication device may be configured to ignore any actuation of the power key with a duration less than a determined time period. The control circuitry performs a first function if the power key is depressed for a first duration, and performs a second function when the power key is depressed for a second duration. For example, depression of the power key for a short period of time may silence and incoming call alert, whereas depression of the power key for a longer period of time will turn the communication device on or off.
