Abstract: A cellular communication system in which a system user and another user communicate with each other by way of information carrying spread spectrum modulated signals transmitted via a cell-site in which system: the system user comprises a transmitter for transmitting information carrying spread spectrum modulated signals to said cell-site, a receiver for receiving information carrying spread spectrum modulated signals from said cell-site and means for measuring signal quality in said information carrying spread spectrum modulated signals received by the system user; the cell-site comprises a transmitter for transmitting information carrying spread spectrum modulated signals to said system user, a receiver for receiving information carrying spread spectrum modulated signals from said system user and adjusting means for adjusting the power of information carrying spread spectrum modulated signals transmitted from the cell-site ; ; and power control means is provided for controlling the transmission power of the information carrying spread spectrum modulated signals by measuring the signal power in the information carrying spread spectrum modulated signals received by the system user and transmitting data representing the measured power to the cell-site by way of the information carrying spread spectrum modulated signals, the adjusting means being responsive to the data in the information carrying spread spectrum modulated signals from the system user to adjust the power in the information carrying spread spectrum modulated signals transmitted by the cell-site.

Abstract: In a cellular telephone system a system for directing communications between a mobile user and cell-sites as a mobile user changes cell-site service areas. The mobile user includes an apparatus for, while in communication with another system user via one cell-site, determining a transition of the mobile user from the cell-site service area to the service area of another cell-site. The system includes circuitry responsive to the indication for coupling communications between the mobile user and the other system user via the new cell-site while the mobile user also remains in communication with the system user via the first cell-site. The system further includes apparatus responsive to the coupling of the communications between the mobile user and the other system user via the new cell-site for terminating the communications between the mobile user and another system user via cell-site with communications continuing between the mobile user and the system user via the new cell-site.

Abstract: A spread spectrum receiver subsystem for utilization in a CDMA cellular telephone having a searcher receiver for scanning the time domain so as to use the PN processing gain and time discrimination properties of spread spectrum coding to determine the location in the time domain and the received signal strength of multiple receptions of a pilot signal traveling upon one or more physical propagation paths to reception. The searcher receiver provides a control signal indicative of the received pilot signals of greatest strength and corresponding time relationship. A data receiver receives spread spectrum communication signals accompanying each received pilot signal and is responsive to the searcher control signal for acquiring and demodulating a spread spectrum communication signal, concomitant with the pilot signal of greatest signal strength, and thus providing a corresponding information bearing encoded output signal.

Abstract: In a data communication system capable of variable rate transmission, high rate packet data transmission improves utilization of the forward link and decreases the transmission delay. Data transmission on the forward link is time multiplexed and the base station transmits at the highest data rate supported by the forward link at each time slot to one mobile station. The data rate is determined by the largest C/I measurement of the forward link signals as measured at the mobile station. Upon determination of a data packet received in error, the mobile station transmits a NACK message back to the base station. The NACK message results in retransmission of the data packet received in error. The data packets can be transmitted out of sequence by the use of sequence number to identify each data unit within the data packets.

Abstract: radio communication, radio engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention refers to communication system in which data were coded in receiver with variable speed of transmission of data. Data are received in the form of symbols arranged in groups of data. If data are transmitted at full speed group of data is filled with symbols. If data are transmitted with speed lesser than full speed symbols are repeated within group of data till group of data is filled or symbols are arranged individually separated one from another by intervals within group of data. With speed of coding equal to one fourth, for instance, of full speed each symbol in group of data is repeated four times or data are transmitted during one quarter of time. Received groups of data are decoded, for example, by decoder and are coded anew by encoder with every possible speed of transmission of data. Comparator compares symbols coded again with symbols received first and counter counts number of errors in symbols. Each decoding process forms indication of quality of decoding process which can include results of test with the use of cyclic excess code or Yamomoto Quality Metric. Counted errors and indication of quality form metric of errors fed to processor or microprocessor. Processor analyses metric of errors per each speed of transmission of data and determines most probable speed with which coming signals were coded. EFFECT: diminished distortion in reception of data transmitted at variable speed without reception of information on speed from transmitter by receiver. 47 cl, 4 dwg

Search processor achieves step-by-step autonomous search, which is configured by microprocessor, which defines set of search parameters, including group of antennas for search, initial shift and search window width, as well as number of Walsh characters for accumulation of results for each shift. Search processor calculates correlation power for each shift and produces final list of best possible signal spreading tracks, which are detected upon search, in order to use them for extension of demodulation elements.
