Abstract: A process of making a synthetic leather includes (i) first, contacting a textile with an aqueous solution containing a cationic hydroxyethylcellulose polymer to form a modified textile component; (ii) subsequently, impregnating the modified textile component with an aqueous polyurethane dispersion externally stabilized with an anionic surfactant; and (iii) precipitating the polyurethane in the modified textile component. And a synthetic leather formed by the process.

Abstract: Water-based pressure sensitive adhesive compositions are disclosed comprising (a) an acrylic emulsion having a glass transition temperature of less than or equal to 20° C., (b) optionally, a dispersant or a silane-containing compound, and (c) an ethylene or propylene copolymer emulsion. In some embodiments, (a) comprises from 75 to 99 wt % of the compositions, (b), when present, comprises from 0.1 to 5 wt % of the compositions, and (c) comprises from 0.1 to 25 wt % of the composition, each based on the dry weight of the compositions. Methods for preparing water-based pressure sensitive adhesive compositions are also disclosed comprising emulsion polymerizing at least one unsaturated monomer, thereby forming an emulsion polymer having a glass transition temperature of less than or equal to −10° C. and blending the emulsion polymer together with a dispersant or silane-containing compound and an ethylene or propylene copolymer emulsion. Water-based pressure sensitive adhesives and pressure sensitive adhesive films are also disclosed.

Abstract: A solventless adhesive is disclosed, the adhesive comprising an isocyanate component comprising at least one isocyanate prepolymer that is the reaction product of reactants comprising at least one isocyanate, at least one polyol, and a branched alkane diol, and a polyol component comprising at least one polyol and a branched alkane diol. The branched alkane diol can comprise a single side alkyl chain, such as 3-methyl-1,5-pentanediol, 2-methyl-1,3-propanediol, and combinations thereof. Further, a method for forming a laminate is disclosed, the method comprising forming a solventless adhesive composition comprising a branched alkane diol, applying a layer of the adhesive composition to a surface of a film, bringing the layer into contact with a surface of another film to form a laminate, and curing the adhesive composition. Still further, a laminate formed by the method is disclosed.

Abstract: Aqueous-based release coating compositions are disclosed. The disclosed aqueous-based release coating compositions are particularly suitable for use with pressure sensitive adhesives. In some embodiments, the aqueous-based release coating compositions include (A) a vinyl-based emulsion copolymer comprising a copolymerizable acid monomer, (B) a silicone-based emulsion comprising a mixture of amine-, polyol-functional siloxane and epoxy-, glycol-functional siloxane, and (C) a polymeric dispersant comprising an acid functional group. In some embodiments, the weight ratio of silicone-based emulsion (B) to polymeric dispersant (C) in the aqueous-based release coating compositions is from 2:1 to 3:1. The disclosed release coating compositions are suitable for use in, inter alia, tape applications.

Abstract: Provided herein is a water-based hybrid pressure sensitive adhesive composition and a method of producing the same. The composition comprises: (A) 100 parts by mass of a silicone pressure sensitive adhesive; (B) 5 to 80 parts by mass of an acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive; (C) water in a sufficient amount to emulsify or disperse components (A) and (B) in component (C); and (D) 0.1 to 10 parts by mass of an amino-functional alkoxysilane compound, a hydrolysate thereof, or a hydrolyzed condensate thereof. Components (A) and (B) are emulsified or dispersed in component (C). The composition can be cured to form a pressure sensitive adhesive exhibiting good peel adhesion and low silicone migration.

Abstract: Disclosed is a composition comprising at least one interpolymer dispersed within an aqueous medium, the interpolymer comprising at least one unsaturated monomer and at least one selected from the group consisting of at least one conjugated acid, at least one mono-ester of a conjugated acid, and mixtures thereof, and, optionally, at least one surfactant configured to stabilize the interpolymer within the aqueous medium. The conjugated acid may be derived from a naturally-occurring oil, such as tung oil. There is also provided a method for preparing a composition, comprising forming an interpolymer comprising the at least one unsaturated monomer and the at least one selected from the group consisting of at least one conjugated acid, at least one mono-ester of a conjugated acid, and mixtures thereof. There is still further provided a pressure sensitive adhesive comprising the composition prepared according to the disclosed method.

Abstract: A unique polyol compound formed by a reaction between a carbonate compound represented by Formula (I) and a polyamine compound is provided. A polyurethane-based adhesive composition comprising the polyol compound can produce an adhesive layer exhibiting superior bond strength and heat seal strength which will not be substantially deteriorated by the change in the weight ratio between isocyanate component and polyol component. Methods for preparing the polyol compound and for preparing the adhesive composition, as well as a laminate article prepared with said adhesive composition are also provided.
