    Abstract: A composite material includes a non-polar polymer and alumina hydrate particulate. The composite material has a Heat Distortion Performance of at least about 10% relative to the non-polar polymer absent the alumina hydrate particulate. The composite material may include a coupling agent including a phosphinic acid group, a phosphonic acid group or an ester derivative thereof.

    Abstract: Inorganic particulate materials may be blended with polymeric materials to form composite materials, and may be used as a filler, reinforcement, colorant, or radiation absorber. Inorganic particulate materials may be used in elastomeric composites for manufacturing tires, thereby reducing the problem of rolling resistance. Difficulties are experienced in dispersion of inorganic nanoparticles with high aspect ratios in non-polar polymers. The present invention provides a dispersible filler and composite material formed thereof and In a particular embodiment, a particulate material includes alumina hydrate. The particulate material has a 500 psi Compaction Volume Ratio of at least about 4.0 cc/cc.
