Date Aug. 4, 1994In order to control oil accidents and to prevent the oil film drifting on the water from spreading, an oil adsorber 1 is provided, in particular shaped as a barrier 2. This barrier 2 is designed in two parts. Both cells 9, 10 are completely filled with glass fiber material or with corresponding fiber mats 11, 12. The glass fibers 28, 30 of the top cell 9 are waterproofed, by an appropriate coating, whereas the fibers of the bottom cell 10 are not treated, so that they absorb water 6. In both cases epoxy resin or a synthetic resin having the same or similar properties are used, so that a long service life is achieved with optimum solidity and design possibilities. The oil adsorbers 1 thus obtained may be used both as barriers 2 and as flat suction elements, for example to clear bilge waters from ships 3. It is also conceivable to use the flat or funnel-shaped elements for collecting components of an aqueous solution, for example.

Abstract: A protective covering for the transport and storage of dangerous materials wraps directly or indirectly round the container or the material and protects it from the environment; the wrap consists essentially of high temp. blown glass wool whose fibres have been rendered hydrophobic and coated (in partic.) with a binder which does not react with oil or similar. The glass fibres are coated with epoxy, and/or methylone resin, hardener, methylpolysilane and/or silicone methyl resin and dust-laying substance; these constituents are applied individually or combined into an emulsion. The binder also pref. contains polyester resin or similar and starch.

Abstract: Glass is recovered completely from scrap bottles, casks, glasses, sheets etc. by cleaning, removal of foreign matter, disintegration and heating. After the foreign matter has been removed the scrap is broken up without separation into colours or other divisions; together with any solvents or other additives it is then fused at 800-1,000 deg.C and the melt is converted into fibres; while still warm the fibres are then coated with an epoxy resin and/or methylone resin, hardener, methyl-polysilane and/or silicone methyl resin and dust-laying agent, separately or with a binder produced from an emulsion mix.

Abstract: The inside (10) of the tank is filled completely or partially with glass wool (12) which is blown in the high temperature range. It is bonded with long-chain starch (polysaccharides) and silicon into a cuttable mesh mat which is cut to the required size and applied to the inner walls (11) and/or corresponding supports (16,17) in the tank. The filling and emptying devices of the tank are fitted with a compressed air connection. This can be connected to an inert gas container set on the tanker vehicle chassis. USE/ADVANTAGE - For petrol, oil and other fuels which are dangerous to the environment. The contents cling to the mesh mat for stability to prevent undesired movements during travel and dangerous leakage in the event of an accident.

Abstract: The device consists of a ring-shaped main body with covering skin. The main body (20) is formed by a high-density lattice construction (5). This is mfd. from glass fibres (6,7) blown at high temp. The fibres are bound into lattice bodies by polysaccharide and silicone materials. The bodies receive their final shape during mfr. or via the outer skin (3). The outer skin is perforated, or formed by a net of flexible material, and has corresp. connection parts e.g. Velcro (RTM) hooked pile fastening, at the ends. The main body has a shoulder on the floor, which is wedge-shaped, and contains a lattice construction with hydrophilic coating. USE/ADVANTAGE - Life saving equipment, esp. lifebelt, is for ships and passenger aircraft, has low weight, high efficiency, and can also be used for environmental protection.
