    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable generating surely a mirror signal for plural kinds of optical disk by switching an operation characteristic of a mirror signal generating means by a control means in accordance with kinds of an optical disk based on a discrimination output by a disk discrimination means. SOLUTION: An optical disk is a CD, reproduction operation is performed using a CD pickup 1a, reflected light information from a disk D is converted into an electric signal by a detector 5a, and supplied to a RF block 21. Also, when an optical disk is a DVD, reproduction operation is performed using a pickup 1b, reflected light information from the disk D is converted into an electric signal by a detector 5b, and supplied to the RF block 21. A changeover switch is controlled to switch by a system controller 30 discriminating kinds of an optical disk in accordance with kinds of an optical disk based on disk discriminating signals DDPI, DDAND, DDA/ D from the RF block 21.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To eliminate the need of a recording frequency search of address signals by making the recording frequencies of address signals to be recorded in an address data area constant in the device where the recording frequency of user data signals is set higher in the outer peripheral side than the inner peripheral side. CONSTITUTION:Sectors consisting of address data areas and user data areas of an optical disk 1 are divided into plural zones in the radial direction. In the address data area, address signals are beforehand recorded by a same frequency in all zones. When an objective address is decided, a controller 5 moves an optical head 6 to the vicinity of the objective address and an address detection section 9 detects the address of the track which is being scanned. Since the address signal write clock frequency is equal in all zones, it is unnecessary that a read frequency band is varied, and address signals are rapidly read.

CONSTITUTION:A laser diode in an optical block 5 irradiates a laser beam to a track pitch identification information index part formed on an optical disk 1 or 2. Furthermore, a pickup in the optical block 5 reads an RF signal such as an information signal. A signal level discrimination circuit 12 discriminates a level of an RF signal detected by an optical block 5. A CPU 13 discriminates whether a track pitch of the optical disk 1 or 2 is narrow or wide depending on a level discriminated by the signal level discrimination circuit 12 to control a changeover switch 9. The tracking control based on a tracking error detected by a tracking error detection section in the optical block 5 is implemented based on a track pitch.

The signal WRF' has a variation part, corresponding to the multi-pulse train of a write RF signal WRF, smoothed. A controller 124 corrects the level of a target level signal STA supplied to an APC circuit 202 so that the pit level LVP becomes equal to an optimum pit level LVPr found before the writing. The pit level LVP is obtained after the variation part of the write RF signal WRF is smoothed by the LPF 203, so the pit level LVP can stably be obtained without being affected by the multi-pulse train and the write power can stably be controlled.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk shaped recording medium and the like for which the compatibility can be judged and correct handling is performed. SOLUTION: On a disk (CD-RW (compact disk-readable and writable)), a pregroove is wobbled and the signal of an ATIP(absolute time in pregroove) is recorded and compatability information, such as, linear velocity information at the time of recording is set in the signal. In a drive 100, when a disk 101 is loaded, the linear velocity information is reproduced and it is obtained by a system controller 125. When there is a data write command from a host computer and the recording speed specified from the host computer does not correspond to the linear velocity information obtained from the disk 101, the controller 125 informs the host of recording impossibility and does not perform recording to the disk 101. As a result, it is avoided that the recording of data is performed to, for example, a disk having 8-fold speed and recording failure is prevented and, moreover, the recording film of the disk is prevented from being damaged.

During the movement of the pickup 3, the phase compensation coefficient for the tracking servo is changed over to the use for the mid-point servo by a DSP(digital signal processor) 5 under control of a CPU 6, and the mid-point error signal is selectively outputted by a selector 4. The phase compensation is carried out by the DSP 5 against the mid-point error signal, and a tracking coil of the biaxial actuator is driven by a driver 7 based on the mid-point error signal subjected to phase compensation, then the vibration in the radial direction is suppressed.
