    Abstract: PURPOSE:To process two disks appropriately by discriminating whether the disk is the one formatted with a first format or the one with a second format from information read by moving the position of an information reading means. CONSTITUTION:When a disk insertion detector 5 outputs the detection signal So of a floppy disk 1, a controller 4 supplies a signal S3 to a head moving device 6, and a magnetic head 2 is moved to the position of a directory in the case of performing the formatting small in capacity of the floppy disk 1. Following that, a signal S1 is supplied from the magnetic head 2 to a directory reader 3, and the controller 4 discriminates the presence/absence of the directory according to a signal S2. When it is discriminated that the directory exists, a data processing small in capacity is performed with a signal S6. When it is judged that no directory exists, the magnetic head 2 is moved to the position of the directory in the case of performing the formatting large in capacity, and the presence/absence of the directory is discriminated, and a data processing S5 large in capacity or error display S4 is performed.

Then, a data read signal from the head 11 is supplied via a signal selection supply part 15 to a signal addition processing part 18. Now, a synthesized data read signal is obtained in the processing part 18, so as to be turned into the reproduced data by a data reproducing part 27.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To promote a recording density and also to enable write by providing a guard band between a read only track region and a write-enable track region and evading a miswrite into the write only track at the time of write. CONSTITUTION:The guard band GB (W) having an enough width to be capable of evading a miswrite into the read region AR (R) is provided between the read only track region AR (R) and the write-enable track region AR (W/R) on a magnetic disk 21. Thus, because of the read only track region AR (R) being provided, a track position error can be minimized, so that a track pitch can hence be narrowed. In addition, because of the write-enable track region AR (W/R) being provided, data cannot be written. Furthermore, it is not feared that the read region is erased by the wide guard band GB (W), so that the recording density is promoted and also the write is feasible.

The height of the bump 4 with which the projection detecting sensor collides is compared with that of the bump 4 with which the sensor does not collide to judge the floating height, the projection detecting sensor is adjuted, the relative position of the projection detecting sensor from the bumps 4 is judged, thereby corrects the running position.

That is to say, the pattern A is arranged on one side of the central line of a data track DT, the pattern B is arranged on the other side, and they are arranged in such a way that frequencies are different in the respective patterns on every track DT. Then, frequencies at the patterns A, B regarding a track DT in a track No.1 are set at f1, f3, the frequencies at the patterns A, B regarding a track No. I+1 are set at f2, f3, and frequencies at both patterns regarding a track No. I+2 are set at f2, f4. Thereby, the occupied area of the patterns is reduced, and a recording capacity can be increased.

A signal S1 caused by this contact is supplied to an waveform observing unit 12 through an amplifier 10 and a signal processing part 11. Thereby obtaining the detection signal S1 equivalent to a write signal S0 in sufficient S/N and detecting the projection of the disk 2 with high reliability.
