Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an ease of use by selectively setting a plurality of disk cartridges of different sizes regulated by diameters of disc-shaped recording media and enabling recording/reproducing information signals to disc-shaped recording media of different diameters. SOLUTION: A plurality of a firs-a third disk cartridges 1a-1c of different sizes are set to a cartridge set part. A first-a third hard disks 5a-5c of different diameters while agreed on a rotation center are operated to rotate with the use of a single disk rotation operation mechanism 22. A magnetic head device 23 is operated to turn based on the identification result by an identification mechanism 24 which identifies a type of the disk cartridge inserted to the apparatus body, thereby recording or reproducing information signals to the first - third hard disks 5a-5c. The recording/reproducing apparatus can be used for the first - third disk cartridges 1a-1c used for various purposes.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a disk device which reduces the outflow of air from the inside of a case body for a disk cartridge and which reduces the entrance dust particles into the case body from the outside. SOLUTION: In a disk device 1, an actuator 8 which is provided with recording/reproducing heads 12, 12 arranged movably. A disklike recording medium 33 is housed inside a case body 32 rotatably. A disk cartridge 31 wherein an opening part 37, for disk placement, into which a disk placement part 30a in which the disklike recording medium 33 is placed on the case body 32 is formed and an insertion hole 36 into which the heads 12, 12 at the actuator 8 are inserted are formed is used. In the disk device 1, an air-outflow regulation means 23b which can be moved in a direction in which the disk cartridge 8 is separated from, and brought close to, the insertion hole 36 is installed. When the disklike recording medium 33 is placed on the disk placement part 30a, the air-outflow regulation means 23b moved in a direction in which it is brought close to the insertion hole 36, the insertion hole 36 is closed, and the outflow of air from the insertion hole 36 is regulated.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve an excellent recording and/or reproducing characteristic from a state of a disk excellent in the strength, stable in the form, and in a highly smoothed state by using liquid crystal polymer as a material forming a base plate, molding it into almost a disk-like form, and by the fact that a molecular axis direction of an extended molecular chain is almost the same as the radius direction of a base plate. SOLUTION: To mold liquid crystal polymer by injection into almost a disk- like form with a hole formed at the center part, a molecular axis direction of an extended molecular chain is almost the same as the radius direction of a base plate 3. Moreover, a rugged pattern is deposited on the base plate 3, and substrates 4, magnetic layers 5, protective layers 6, and lubricating layers 7 are deposited on both main surfaces 3a, 3b in this order by a thin film deposition method, therefore, the magnetic layers 5 are also deposited in a rugged pattern. This magnetic disk has obtained such properties as a very small post- deposition contraction coefficient, an excellent dimension stability, a high Young' s modulus, and a good rigidity. These prevent the disk from thermal deformation and secure recording and/or reproducing.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the disk cleaning device in which dust on a disk is easily removed and sticking of dust to a slider is prevented. SOLUTION: A slider 120A supported by a head actuator 20A is moved close to the surface of the disk rotated by a spindle motor 30A, a seek operation is conducted for the slider 120A so that the dust stuck on a disk is stuck on the slider 120A. During the above operation, the slider 120A is floated up to the portion, which is closer to the surface of the disk than a normal recording and reproducing position, and a seek operation is conducted. The dust stuck on the slider 120A is re-stuck on the inner peripheral section, which is the non-recording region of the disk that is cleaned, and is removed from the slider 120A. The dust stuck on the slider 120A is eliminated by sticking on a dedicated dust cleaning disk. Note that the number of revolutions of the disk is reduced so as to stick the dust stuck on the slider 120A to the disk.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detector which can be used as an auxiliary device at the time of conducting inspections with a tester and can improve the detecting probability of the defective short of electric equipment. SOLUTION: A defective short detector supplies a stepped input voltage from a variable DC voltage source 200 to electric equipment 4 after converting the voltage into a voltage VOUT for detecting defective short which varies depending upon the inductance L of a time constant variable inductance 10 and the resistance value R of a resistor 20 by means of a time constant circuit 100. The equipment 4 converts the voltage VOUT for detecting defective short inputted to a primary-side circuit 430 into a pulse VP for detecting defective short by means of a transformer 420 and impresses the pulse VP upon a secondary-side circuit 440. The secondary-side circuit 440 is inspected for defective short by switching the waveform of the pulse V in many steps by changing the level and time constant of the voltage VOUT.

The 2nd driving part permits a precise tracking servo.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the occurrence of operational failure due to the leakage of a lubricating fluid. SOLUTION: In a spindle motor 3 of a disc device, perfluoropolyether is sealed between a rotary shaft 106 and a bearing surface 113 as a lubricating fluid. The perfluoropolyether is the same type as the fluid applied to the disc of the hard disc device as a liquid lubricant. When the rotary shaft 106 is rotated, dynamic pressure of the lubricating fluid is generated by herringbone grooves 111 to support radial load. Even when the lubricating fluid leaks, operational failure of the disc device does not occur, since the fluid is the same type as the liquid lubricant for the disc.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grasp a magnetic fluid in utilizing a leakage magnetic flux of a disk chucking magnet and to confine the magnetic fluid in its position. SOLUTION: A shaft 16 is inserted into a cylindrical body 30, and a viscous fluid 32 is sealed between this shaft and the cylindrical body to form a fluid bearing part 40. A fluid sealing 50 is provided on an upper end side of the fluid bearing part. This means is composed of recessed annular parts 54 and 55 and a magnetic fluid 61 sealed in a gap between them. Magnetic flux passing through a cylinder body 21 by the recessed annular parts becomes easily leakable in these parts, and the leakage magnetic flux is grasped to be confined in the recessed annular parts. A passage for passing the recessed annular parts is interrupted by the confinement of the fluid in virtue of this magnetic flux, so that the fluid 32 and the magnetic fluid itself are never leaked to the outside. Since a magnet to be exclusively used for attracting the magnetic fluid is not required, the structure can be miniaturized and thin structive by a space for this magnet.
