Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically discriminate whether or not an optical disk conforms to an address management method by recording the information showing whether or not it is a disk conforming to the specified address management method on a fixed position on a track. SOLUTION: The information showing that a disk drive device doesn't answer to (Addressing Method-II) is recorded on a physical address D1 answering to a logic address A1 linearly. The information showing that the disk device answers to the (Addressing method-II) is recorded on the physical address D2 answering to the logic address A1 nonlinearly. For instance, when the address specified by the address A1 is the address of a second packet, a difference of seven blocks occurs between the addresses D1 and D2. That is, the address D2 becomes larger as much as skipping over the block of a link area. By recording in such a manner, the kind of the drive device is confirmed regardless of whether or not the disk drive device corresponds to the (Addressing Method-II).

Abstract: PURPOSE:To search the boundary between a recording region and a non- recording region at a high speed. CONSTITUTION:RF signals in signals which are reproduced during a preceding trackjump operation are used for a search. In ths searching method, the RF signals which are reproduced by the trackjump operation are inputted to an RF detector 45 from a matrix circuit 11 and the RF detector 45 decides whether data components are contained or not. The decision results are transmitted to a CPU 47 to search the boundary between a recording region and a non- recording region roughly. After that, the further strict boundary between the recording region and the non-recording region is searched by a binary searching method.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To view the label surface of an optical disk being rotated in its static condition and to read characters, etc., written on the label in the condition that the optical disk is rotated. CONSTITUTION:The rotative condition of a spindle motor 2 is detected by a rotation detecting section 3 and based on a detected output from the rotation detection section 3, a driver is synchronized with the rotation of an optical disk 1. Also, an electric bulb 6 is made to emit a light so that the label surface 1a of the optical disk 1 is irradiated with a light once everytime the optical disk 1 makes one rotation.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To reduce the increase in the light quantity of a light beam and to prolong the service life of the light source by controlling the pulse widths of the light beam so as to hold an asymmetry at an optimum value. CONSTITUTION:The light beam L1 of a light source 10 is converged on an information recording surface and optical systems 12, 14, 16 and 24 are provided to converge a reflected light L2 on a light receiving element 24. Based on the light receiving result RF of the photodetector 24, an asymmetry detection means 48 detects the asymmetry of a pit P. Based on the result, controlling circuits 8, 44 and 72 control pulse widths of the light beam L1 so as to make the asymmetry an optimum. In a reproduction mode, the means 48 changes the pulse widths through control circuits 8, 44 and 72 based on the output signals RF of the element 24, the light beam L1 irradiates an optical disk 2 and pits P are successively formed. Then, the mode is switched to a reproduction mode and pits P are successively formed based on the pulse widths selected at the time of an information recording.
