Abstract: The invention relates to a shape-memory fibre-optic connector comprising a shape-memory sleeve 1 capable of contracting and shrinking at the use temperature of the connector, the contraction revealing ribs which compress the fibres, the shrinkage revealing ribs which compress the fibres and the shrinkage serving to move their ends closer together. Application to optical linkages.

Abstract: In order to double the horizontal resolution of colour television pictures, whilst remaining compatible with existing transmitters and receivers, advantage is taken of the fact that high resolution is only actually necessary in those portions of the picture which are stationary or moving slowly. With each picture, is transmitted, for each pixel, either its refresh, or its neighbour, depending on whether the relevant picture portion is or is not moving.

Abstract: The device proposes to facilitate taking decisions about the defence of targets by displaying not the relative distances of the various hostile aircraft but the relative dangers they present to the defence system. Application mainly to ground, airborne and ship-borne self-defence systems.

Abstract: A prism (2) with total internal reflection has a flexible membrane (5) fitted into a housing (7) in its large face. The membrane has a hole (5a) to permit balancing of the static pressure on both faces. The prism is mounted in a support (24) and has a protective grid (25) covered by the mouthpiece (22) screwed onto the handset (21). The handset has two housings (27a,b) in which collimating lenses (3a,b) are fitted with their focal points at the ends of optical fibres (4a,b) and adjacent to the small faces of the prism. One optical fibre (4a) permits coupling of the prism to an external light source while the other fibre is coupled to a photodetector. Movement of the membrane which has a light absorbing surface facing the prism causes part of the light energy to be subtracted from the transmitted energy.

Abstract: 1490595 Television THOMSON-CSF 8 Aug 1975 [9 Aug 1974] 33248/75 Heading H4F A coding/decoding system for use in image recording apparatus effects upon coding bandbandwidth reduction. Video signal E, Fig. 1, is separated into adjacent frequency bands of equal width by filters 1 and 2. The higher band of signals emanating from filter 2 is transposed, by a single side band (SSB) modulator 4 into the frequency range of the lower band emanating from filter 1. A switch 7, actuated at the frame rate, selects the translated high band portion and the low band portion alternately. Bursts of the reference oscillation employed by SSB modulator 4 are added to the translated high band portion, in the horizontal blanking intervals, at 6 prior to recording of the resultant signal termed "the alternate signal". On playback the alternate signal A, Fig. 2, and this signal delayed, A 1 , are applied to a double switch 20 having two outputs. The switches are controlled by a circuit under the influence of the bursts of reference oscillations extracted by filters 25, 26 so as to provide on one output the low band portion and on the other the translated high band portion. The latter passes a demodulator 23 which translates it to its original high band prior to combination in an adder 24 with the low band portion to reproduce the video signal V. The bursts of reference oscillation may be added to the translated high band portion upstream of switch 7, Fig. 1. Colour signals may be added to the two signal portions immediately upstream of switch 7. These occupy a narrow band immediately above the lower band, and are extracted by filters prior to application to a further double switch identical in nature and control to the first double switch, Figs. 3 to 5 (not shown). Alternatively the colour component may be extracted downstream of first switch 20, Fig. 2, obviating the need for the second such switch.
