Abstract:
An exercise device is configured to enable a user to interact with a trainer (21) in real-time communication. The exercise device (12) includes an exercise mechanism having a movable element for movement in performance of exercise by a user. Communicating with the exercise mechanism is an interface (16) adapted for gathering a first real-time signal from the user. The interface (16) communicates with a communication system for receiving a packetized second real-time signal including a synchronized control signal from the trainer. The exercise device includes an output device configured to reproduce the second real-time signal. The control signals carried by the second signal are used to control the operating parameters of the exercise mechanism in real-time.

Abstract:
Systems, devices, methods and computer program products for providing an exercise device access to information stored on a portable memory device. An exercise device includes a data port which is adapted to receive the portable memory device, regardless of its format. For instance, either a Secure Digital or multimedia format memory card may be accessed through the same data port. To access the portable memory device, the exercise device stores the access protocols for each of the various formats. Upon determining that the format of the memory device, the exercise device then selectively applies the appropriate protocols, which may allow read and optionally write access to the portable memory device. The enabled communication allows the exercise device to access data stored on the memory card. The accessed data may include personal user information, exercise programs, and motivational content. The data can be delivered to the user.
Abstract:
An exercise system (10) includes a plurality of stationary exercise machines (12) for use in a group exercise class. Each exercise machine (12) includes a data capturing means (14) connected thereto to capture data (16) associated with that machine (12) and a person (not shown) using the machine (12). A central data processing means (18) is provided on an exercise machine (20) used by an instructor (not shown) of the class. The central data processing means (18) is configured to receive data 16 from the data capturing means (14) and for processing said data (16). A first display means in the form of a liquid crystal display screen (22) is mounted on the exercise machine (20) of the instructor for displaying the processed data in a desired format to permit the instructor to monitor the performance of each person partaking in the exercise class.
Abstract:
An exercise apparatus including first and second elongated support members (14) pivotally mounted upon a support frame (12). First and second foot holders (20, 22) are movably mounted upon the first and second support members (14), respectively, for supporting a user's feet thereon. The foot holders (20, 22) are moveable forwardly and backwardly along the support members (14). The combination of pivotal movement of the support members (14) and linear movement of the foot holders (20, 22) relative to the support members (14) enables the user to move each foot (i) simultaneously backwardly and downwardly, and (ii) simultaneously forwardly and upwardly, in a reciprocating movement path without removing the feet from the foot holders (20, 22).
Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed to recumbent exercise machines and associated systems and methods. In one embodiment, for example, a recumbent exercise apparatus can include a seat, two linear guide tracks forward of the seat, and two pedal assemblies movably coupled to corresponding linear guide tracks positioned forward of the seat. The pedal assemblies can be configured to move back and forth along the linear guide tracks. The recumbent exercise apparatus can further include linear actuators operably coupled to each of the linear guide tracks and configured to move the linear guide tracks up and down in a vertical direction. The pedal assemblies can be configured to move in elliptical patterns when the pedal assemblies move back and forth along the linear guide tracks and the linear actuators move the linear guide tracks up and down.
