Systems and methods are provided by which filtration media may be backwashed more effectively. In especially preferred forms, the present invention is embodied in a filter cartridge assembly which includes generally tubular filter cartridge (16) and a tubular surge chamber (20) physically attached to one end of the filter cartridge (16) at one end thereof. The tubular surge chamber (20) thus provides for an available stand-by additional volume of liquid immediately adjacent the filter cartridge (16) so that, upon backwashing, the additional volume of liquid serves to direct a concentrated wave of energy into the filtration media.

In critical filtration applications, filter cartridges (200) are employed to replace ion exchange resin precoat filters to minimize the waste produced. The filter cartridges (200) which are housed in a multiple cartridge filter housing (300) with an inlet (320), an internal baffle plate (330) which defines an upper chamber (340) and a lower chamber (350), are backwashed with all gas via a gas inlet (410) and the liquid in the filter housing (300) provides an active scouring effect as a result of the high levels of turbulence produced. The baffle plate (330) is provided with ports (360) to receive the cartridges (200). Chamber (350) is provided with a filtrate outlet (380). The liquid, with entrained debris from the filter, is minimized in volume.

A Reactor (1) for solid phase synthesis comprises a vessel (2), a plurality of filters (3) arranged in the vessel (2) and a plurality of filtrate outlets (4) for evacuating the filtrate out of the filters (3). Each filter (3) is connected to one filtrate outlet (4). The reactor (1) comprises means (3, 4) for delivering a gas into the vessel (2) in a region of the vessel (2) near to the bottom (24) of the vessel (2) and beside the filters (3).

PURPOSE: A candle type ballast water filtering apparatus is provided to form a secret area near a driving shaft to prevent back washing water in a sucking part from leaking to the outside of a housing. CONSTITUTION: A candle type ballast water filtering apparatus comprises a housing, a filtering part and an automatic washing part. A sucking part of the automatic washing part comprises more than a flushing arm which is connected to a filter element(31) in each circular path in the filtering part to suck back washing water. An exhaust part comprises a back pressure preventing tank which is connected to the sucking part to form an exhaust line. The back washing water and the polluted particles of the exhaust line are stored in the back pressure preventing tank to increase the pressure in the exhaust line.

PURPOSE: A high-efficiency candle type ballast water filtering apparatus having a high-density filter structure is provided to maintain the filtering capability of the ballast water filtering apparatus in the case when backwashing water is accumulated in a back pressure preventing tank over a certain water level by discharging the accumulated water in order to prevent back pressure formation and allow for uniform backwashing. CONSTITUTION: A high-efficiency candle type ballast water filtering apparatus having a high-density filter structure comprises a housing, a filter part, and an automatic washing unit. The filter section includes one or more filter elements(31) that are arranged along the concentric circular path with a driving shaft of a driver at the center and are capable of filtering and backwashing. The automatic washing part includes a suction part(c), a driver, and discharging part(d). The suction part includes one or more flushing arms that rotate around the driving shaft by the driver and accept the backwashing water connected with each filter element on the concentric path of the filter part.

A filter assembly for use in filtering stormwater includes a bottom including a boss that includes a rib extending laterally along an inner surface of the boss. The rib includes a locking portion that mates with a corresponding locking portion on a peripheral surface of a connection to an outlet conduit for securing the bottom to the connection thereby inhibiting rotation of the bottom relative to the outlet conduit. A center tube is secured to the bottom using a locking mechanism that inhibits relative movement between the bottom and the center tube. The center tube is in communication with an opening in the bottom and a hood is secured to the center tube. A filter medium is located between the hood and the center tube.
