A filter has a longitudinal axis with an inner diameter defined by a hollow longitudinally extending center. The filter has fingers extend radially outwardly arcuately from the longitudinal axis. The fingers have base ends near the longitudinal axis and outer edges at extremities spaced from the longitudinal axis. The outer diameter of the filter is defined by the outer edges of the fingers. The filter is formed from a sintered porous molded thermoplastic or another material resulting in a filter more rigid than standard filters. The fingers are spaced apart from one another a predetermined, substantially fixed distance to form slots therebetween sized to capture contaminants therein.
Abstract:
A filter system for spas and swimming pools is disclosed having a primary filter containing a porous membrane made of multiple plies. A fluid purifying medium in the form of irregularly shaped copper and zinc alloy particles is captured between the plies and placed in contact with the spa water to kill bacteria and remove heavy metals, precipitates and chlorine as the water cycles through the filter. A micro filter for filtering particles surrounds the primary filter, the micro filter and primary filter are mounted in a chamber in fluid communication with the spa or pool. Another particulate filter is positioned upstream of the micro filter and primary filter. A secondary micro filter and primary filter provide filter capacity augmentation through a parallel flow path during periods of increased demand.

Each cap of a pair of end caps mounted on opposed ends of a conventional radial flow cylindrical filter element of a filter cartridge includes a circular sleeve extending axially from the filter element for penetrably receiving a supporting stud and for maintaining an O-ring seal therebetween. The area of one of the end caps radially outwardly of its circular sleeve is greater than the corresponding area of the other end cap to cause fluid to be filtered to pressure bias the filter cartridge toward the other end cap and to positionally retain the filter cartridge within its housing. A positioning member extending into the filter element from one of the end caps receives and stabilizes sleeve for a u/v lamp disposed within the filter element to kill any microorganisms present and to oxidize any organic matter subjected to the emitted ultra-violent radiation.

A filtering system for filtering effluent in a septic tank including an outer secondary filter secured within a pipe fitting, wherein the outer secondary filter includes a central opening passing therethrough; an inner primary filter, wherein the inner primary filter is slidingly engaged within the central opening in the outer secondary filter; and a filtering connection element, secured between the outer secondary filter and an inner surface of the pipe fitting, wherein the filtering connection element filters effluent passing upward through the filter pipe fitting and wherein upon removal of the inner primary filter, the outer secondary filter filters the effluent entering the pipe fitting before discharge. Either or both of the outer secondary filter or the inner primary filter may be formed with a biocide to retard the growth of biological material on their surfaces.

The invention relates to a system and a method for well completion, control and monitoring of processes in a reservoir. A combined prefabricated liner and matrix system (4) with defined properties for fast and simple well and/or reservoir completion, monitoring and control is provided. An embodiment of the combined prefabricated liner and matrix system 4 comprises an outer perforated tubular pipe/pipe system 6, an inner tubular screen 7, and a matrix 8. A method for control and monitoring of processes in a well or reservoir using the combined liner and matrix system is also described The combined liner/matrix system may be used in any process equipment, like e.g. reactors, separators and storage tanks. The system may also be used in a gas/oil/water producing or injection well for well completion, control and monitoring.

A method of testing the integrity of a filter element in a falter assembly includes a) wetting filter material of a filter element having an inlet side and an outlet side connected to an outlet conduit, b) subjecting the inlet side of the filter element to a gas pressure, c) measuring the pressure in the outlet conduit as a function of time, with a downstream outlet valve for the outlet conduit being closed, and d) determining whether the pressure measured at a preselected time exceeds a reference pressure by a predetermined amount, or determining whether the time required to reach a preselected pressure is shorter than a reference time by a predetermined amount.

A method and apparatus for automatically propelling a charge of backwash fluid by a compressed gas such as steam to backwash a filter in a filter pair. The method and apparatus provides for backwashing a filter with at least three backwash phases, a first mainly comprising a charge of backwash fluid passing through the filter with significant speed, a second relating to use of flashing steam for secondary cleaning and scrubbing of the filter elements, and a third relating to use of low pressure steam for autoclaving and sterilizing the filter.

A method of improving the operation of filters of the type used to filter cooling water which is used intermittently in direct heat exchange relationship to cool large office buildings and similar structures, which method comprises maintaining the filters when not in use in contact with an aqueous solution which contains a preservative amount of an industrial biocide. Also shown is a method of controlling microorganisms in the filters by using a biocide with the backwash water.
