The rotating cylinder for processing a web material comprises an essentially rigid cylindrical core (13), on which is fitted an interchangeable sleeve (45) of elastically expandable material whose rigidity is less than that of the material of the core; the sleeve is axially and angularly fixable to the core and is provided on its outer surface with a relief pattern. For each end of the cylinder, there is provided at least one corresponding mechanical locking member which can be fixed to the corresponding end of the core of the cylinder and which interacts with the corresponding end of the interchangeable sleeve to lock the interchangeable sleeve angularly with respect to the core of the cylinder.
Abstract:
An embossing device for embossing a single-ply or multi-ply web of tissue paper comprises a first steel roll (12) with embossing protuberances (24, 26) on its peripheral surface and a second roll (14) with a yielding layer (32) on its peripheral surface. The second roll cooperates with the steel roll (12) so as to form an embossing nip (20) therewith. The steel roll (12) and the second roll (14) run in synchronisation. The second roll (14) has individual zones (30) on its peripheral surface with a higher overall thickness and/or different material characteristics of the yielding layer (32; 32, 34) compared to that of the remaining peripheral surface. These individual zones (30) are opposed in the embossing nip (20) to embossing protuberances of the steel roll (12).

In the method for producing a set of cooperating embossing rollers, a modelling device is used for parameterizing the embossing rollers, the device comprising a test bench having a pair of rollers which are put under hydraulic pressure that can be measured and set, in order to determine from the measurement data the parameters for producing the embossing rollers. The use of a modelling device for obtaining the parameters for producing a set of embossing rollers makes it possible to use a very large variety of embossing patterns and foils with diverse properties as a basis and, by conducting tests on this very test bench, be able to efficiently narrow down and predetermine the properties of a final embossing device, preferably operated without hydraulics.

Beim Verfahren zur Herstellung eines Satzes von miteinander kooperierenden Prägewalzen wird für die Parametrisierung der Prägewalzen eine Modellvorrichtung, ein Teststand, verwendet, die ein Paar Walzen aufweist, die unter mess- und einstellbaren hydraulischen Druck gesetzt werden, um aus den Messdaten die Parameter zur Herstellung der Prägewalzen zu bestimmen. Durch die Verwendung einer Modellvorrichtung zum Gewinnen der Parameter zur Herstellung eines Satzes von Prägewalzen, ist es möglich, rationell von einer sehr grossen Vielfalt von Prägemustern und Folien mit diversen Eigenschaften auszugehen, und durch Tests an eben diesem Teststand die Eigenschaften einer endgültigen, bevorzugt ohne Hydraulik betriebenen, Prägeeinrichtung eingrenzen und vorherbestimmen zu können.

The rotating cylinder comprises: an elongated inner core (12) which is substantially rigid and an interchangeable sleeve (45) which is fitted onto the core; the sleeve is axially and angularly constrained to said core and is provided on its external surface with a raised pattern. The internal surface of the interchangeable sleeve and the external surface of the inner core are conical surfaces which are mutually complementary; axial and angular locking of the interchangeable sleeve and the inner core is achieved by the friction between the conical surfaces which are forced axially one onto the other.

Embossing method, and material made by the method, including at least a pair of embossing rolls having unmatched embossing patterns engraved independently from each other, and having enlarged sidewall clearances between adjacent, inter-engaged protrusions and recessions of the embossing patterns. The sidewall clearances can range from about 0.050mm to about 1.27 mm. The width of the protrusions can be greater than about 0.050mm. The peripheral surface of at least one of the embossing rolls can comprise a metal, a plastic, a ceramic, or a rubber. Also disclosed is an embossed web material capable of being used as a wrap material for food products, made by the above process.
