SOLUTION: The lubricating oil composition has TBN (total base number) of at least about 8 and comprises (a) a large amount of lubricating viscous oil; (b) one or more dihydrocarbyl dithiophosphate metal salt with no more than 0.06mass% of phosphorus to be introduced into the lubricating oil composition; (c) at least 1.2mass% of a hindered phenol antioxidant; and (d) boron and/or a boron-containing compound in an amount providing the lubricating oil composition with at least 200ppm by mass of boron.
