Abstract:
A solid lubricant and composition useful for lubricating the flanges of locomotive wheels, railcar wheels, rail track and in applications where it is desirable to reduce friction when metal contacts metal. The solid lubricant having from about twenty-five percent to about seventy percent by volume of a polymeric carrier, about five to seventy-five percent by volume of organic and inorganic extreme pressure additives, about zero to twenty percent by volume synthetic extreme pressure anti-wear liquid oil, and about zero to one percent by volume optical brightener.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a lubricant which can be used as a mandrel lubricant with a content of 75 to 90 wt. % of graphite and contains 1 to 10 wt. % of a phosphate. Said lubricant can also contain 1 to 4 wt % alkali silicate, 1 to 10 wt. % bentonite, 0.5 to 1 wt. % silico-phosphate and common solid lubricants. Said lubricant is preferably used as an aqueous suspension with a solid content of 20 to 40 wt. %.
Abstract:
According to the method of the invention, first a paste is produced from a plastics dispersion and fillers in order to form the plastics sliding layer. This paste is free from organic solvents and is applied to a sintered porous metal layer. The resultant multi-layer material is then sintered. Since organic solvents are not used, the risks to health and the risk of fire are considerably reduced. Furthermore, the composite materials produced according to the invention have exceptional resistance to cavitation. In addition to conventional fields of application relative to lubrication-free articles, such as bearings, these composite materials can therefore also be used in gear pumps and shock absorbers.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A lubrication block, with or without a cavity, or a lubrication bag, for lubricating an ID surface of a tyre and an OD surface of a plurality of pads of rotary trunnion supported equipment, such as a kiln, cooler, dryer, reactor, granulator and ball mill operating at temperatures from 100 DEG F to 500 DEG F or higher. The tyre has inner and outer faces, and the inner face of the tyre is slipped over the plurality of pads or filler bars welded to an outer shell of the rotary equipment. The lubrication block or bag is sized so as to be inserted in between the pads. The lubrication block comprises a lubricant and a solid carrier for said lubricant. The carrier is selected from the group consisting of waxes such as paraffin, polymers, copolymers such as ethylene or polyethylene glycol or mixtures thereof, and the lubricant comprises powdered carbon and a soft metal powder (e.g. copper, zinc, aluminum) or a noble metal powder (e.g. silver, copper). The lubrication bag contains a lubricant like the lubrication block and is made of a material selected from the group consisting of plastic materials such as polymers, copolymers or mixtures thereof. The carrier or the material of the bag melts and vaporizes at the temperature of the tyre, leaving very little harmful residue on the tyre except for the powdered carbon, the soft metal powders and the noble metal powders. In this way, the powdered carbon and the metal powders are capable of lubricating the ID surface of the tyre uniformly, without having to use messy hoses, pumps, or kegs containing the lubricant, in order to apply the lubricant to the ID surface of the tyre.
Abstract:
Thin impermeable, surface hardened, corrosion-resistant, durable, dry lubricant surface finishes are provided as well as surface finished products and methods for the production thereof. The surface finishes comprise particulate mixtures of sulfur containing metallic compounds and fluorocarbon polymers and are applied to surfaces of substrates such as metallic surfaces.
Abstract:
A surface-coated rubber or plastic sliding member having a coating with excellent durability and high slipperiness, wherein the coating comprises a solid lubricant such as molybdenum disulfide, a resin matrix and a reinforcement, said resin matrix comprising a fluoroolefin vinyl ether polymer resin and/or a fluoroolefin vinyl ether/vinyl ester copolymer resin.
Abstract:
A novel lubricant composition which processes high and positive friction characteristics and comprises (a) at least 20 % by weight of a polymer medium; (b) at least 5 % by weight of a solid lubricant; and (c) at least 5 % by weight of a powderized solid mineral friction modifier.
Abstract:
The present invention aims to provide solid particles with improved lubrication, a solid lubricant including the solid particles, and a metal member including, on the surface thereof, the solid particles or the solid lubricant. The solid particles of the present invention include base particles and carbon fluoride particles attached to surfaces of the base particles.
