Abstract: A hybrid elastomer/metal on metal motor for a helical gear device includes a rotor and stator comprising a hydraulic motor that produces work when a working fluid is pumped therethrough. The improvement consists of the stator being, for part of its length, a conventional or even wall stator, using an elastomer to form a seal against the moving rotor. The stator's remaining length comprises a profiled rigid surface that forms a seal directly with the moving rotor. This gives the motor the high efficiency of the elastomer sealing against the rotor, and simultaneously provides a backup of the stator's rigid portion allowing continued motor operation at reduced efficiency, if the elastomer part failed in service. The invention also includes combinations of a regular disk stack with a rubber lining, a rigid material disk stack and a circular rigid sleeve which react to rotor sideloading while permitting proper rotor orbiting.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of manufacturing a sector of metal blading (1) for a turbomachine low pressure guide vane assembly in which at least one vane (14) comprises an internal cavity (13) intended to accept or communicate with a gas detection probe and at least one hole (19) formed in the wall constituting a passage for gas from the low-pressure zone of the turbomachine to the said cavity (13) and the probe by installing in a casting mould an insert that corresponds to the said cavity (13) and pouring molten metal into the cavity of the said casting mould. Abstract: The present invention is an integral composite structural (ICS) material (10) comprising an open metal structure (20) having at least one external side and internal surfaces defining a plurality of open shapes (40) with a ceramic matrix composite (50) bonded to at least one external side and the surfaces of at least a substantial portion of the plurality of open shapes (40) and occupying at least a substantial portion of the plurality of open shapes (40). The open metal structure (10), independent of the ceramic matrix composite (50), has a total metal volume percent in the range of about 10% to about 90%, with no dimension of any open shape (40) being greater than about 3/4 inch. The ceramic matrix layer (50) covers a substantial portion of at least one external side of the open metal structure (20). At least one external side of the metal portion (20) of the ICS material is bonded with a ceramic matrix composite (50) such that the ceramic layer (50) occupies at least a significant portion of the open pores (40) of the metal portion and is bonded to a significant portion of at least one external side of the metal element (20). The present invention is also a method of manufacturing such an ICS material.

Abstract: The durability of a coating layer formed on the sliding surface between two members of a compressor, and the sliding contact between the two members, is kept excellent over a long period of time. In a peripheral portion 10d of a swash plate 10, a pair of shoes 20 are connected to the swash plate 10 while intervening between the swash plate 10 and a piston 8. Both the swash plate 10 and the shoes 20 are formed from an iron series material. A film 23 is formed on both surfaces 22 of the peripheral portion 10d of the swash plate 10, and the shoes 20 slide on the film 23 on the swash plate 10. The film 23 is a coating layer formed from a resin containing metallic particles. The particle size of the metallic particles is larger than the thickness of the film 23 (e.g., from 10 to 100 µm), and the surface of the film 23 is made smooth by polishing. The resin functioning as a binder of the metallic particles is formed from, for example, a polyimide resin.

Abstract: A positive displacement rotary pump with an improved impeller design integrating replaceable wiper inserts. The impeller generally has one or more lobes and an equal number of conjugate surfaces. Each lobe has an arcuate peripheral end comprising a plurality of wiper blades. Each lobe further has a facial wiper blade on each face of the lobe. The wiper blades improve efficiency by making a seal with a pump chamber or the conjugate surface on the other impeller as it rotates. The wiper blades are arranged such that constant and successive contact between wiper blades and impellers is achieved.
