    Abstract: An accumulator assembly comprises an accumulator cylinder formed of a cylindrical, gas-impermeable shell and a cylindrical gas-impermeable sleeve disposed within and substantially concentric with the shell. An interstitial space is formed between the sleeve and the shell. A piston slidably is disposed within the sleeve, the piston separating an interior of the sleeve into a first chamber configured to contain a compressed gas, and a second chamber configured to contain a pressurized fluid. A pair of removable axial closures retained to the gas-impermeable sleeve at opposing ends and sealingly engaged with corresponding opposing ends of the gas-impermeable shell is configured to provide maximum resistance to the tensional stress of the sleeve.

    Abstract: A lightweight, low permeation, piston-in-sleeve high pressure accumulator is provided. The accumulator includes a cylindrical composite pressure vessel with two integral rounded ends. A piston slidably disposed in a thin nonpermeable internal sleeve in the accumulator separates two chambers, one adapted for containing a working fluid and the other adapted for containing gas under pressure. Working fluid is provided in a volume between the nonpermeable internal sleeve and the composite pressure vessel wall. Further means are provided for withstanding harmful effects of radial flexing of the composite vessel wall under high pressures, and from stresses present in use in mobile applications such as with a hydraulic power system for a hydraulic hybrid motor vehicle. A method for pre-charging the device is also presented.

    Abstract: An impedance shaping element (or more simply, an impedance shaper) physically alters or shapes the mechanical impedance of a drive system as it appears from an interface and facilitates use of feedback control to improve performance by altering or shaping a dynamic coupling between an interface and a control system. For example, the impedance shaper can be used to adjust a coupling value from a first value to a second different value.     Abstract: An accumulator (100) for a hydraulic system, wherein the accumulator (100) comprises a liner (110), a piston (140) and a housing (200), that defines a pressure chamber (PC), for receiving hydraulic fluid at high pressure, wherein the piston (140) is biased towards an end position of the pressure chamber (PC) for interacting with the hydraulic fluid in the pressure chamber (PC), and the piston (140) is movable in a predetermined range for accumulating hydraulic fluid. The accumulator has at least one outlet port (111) in a sidewall (112) of the liner (110), which outlet port (111) is covered by the piston (140) in the predetermined range and is uncovered when the piston (140) has moved a predetermined distance from the end position. A hydraulic system is also provided that comprises the above accumulator and an all-wheel drive system comprising the above hydraulic system. A method for de-airing an accumulator according to above is also provided.
