    Abstract: A closed loop direct position feedback control method and recording apparatus for producing on a recording medium a plurality of successive print lines or otherwise component images. An appendant demarcation device provides for the proper abutting and spacing of each independent print character. The apparatus includes a mechanism (18) for transporting the medium along a path orthogonal to the print head (12), which produces single lines or swaths (3) of print in conjunction with the indexed advance of the medium relative to the print head (12). The transport mechanism (18) is operative to advance a first print line or swath through the recording station (12) to form a first print line, to identify and store the position coordinates of each print line or swath (3), and to advance the recording medium for successive line or swath printing (3). The direct position feedback control apparatus also includes a demarcation sensing and printing device (20), (33) for relative positioning, whereby the distance between the location of any sensed or printed demarcation reference and the next successive print line is controlled such that each print line will neglect the positioning error in any previous print line or swath.

    Abstract: The image reading apparatus conveys a reading unit or a document to read the document. Conveyance is implemented by motor control based on a target position trajectory. The reading unit reads the document each time a line start signal is inputted. When a predetermined condition is satisfied, the reading operation is invalidated. A conveyance position at a timing to start the first reading operation invalidated is specified as an interrupted position. The object is arranged at a conveyance restart position moved back from the interrupted position. A target position trajectory is newly set. A conveyance time from the conveyance restart position to the interrupted position defined by the target position trajectory is an integral multiple of an output cycle of the line start signal. The motor control based on the target position trajectory is started at a timing coinciding with an output timing of the line start signal.

    Abstract: In an image reading apparatus, a retreat control device moves a conveyance target through a conveyance mechanism, when a stop operation is performed by a stop control device, in an opposite direction to an image reading direction to a position further from a restart reference position set by a position setting unit. A reading control device again moves the conveyance target, which has been moved by the retreat control device, at a constant speed in the image reading direction under a predetermined condition; inputs a line start signal to a reading unit when an offset time set by a time setting unit has elapsed from a time point when the conveyance target reaches the restart reference position; and periodically inputs a line start signal to thereby cause the reading unit to perform a reading operation from a point; where the reading unit is located when the offset time has elapsed.

    Abstract: In an image reading apparatus, a plurality of reading sensors extend in a main scanning direction and separated from each other in the main scanning direction so as to be located in a staggered arrangement in which a part of one of the reading sensors in the longitudinal direction faces a part of adjacent one of the reading sensors in a sub-scanning direction. A first connection member is provided to the part of one of the reading sensors facing the part of the adjacent one of the reading sensors. The first connection member protrudes toward the adjacent one of the reading sensors. A second connection member is provided to the part of the adjacent one of the reading sensors facing the part of the one of the reading sensors. The second connection member protrudes toward the one of the reading sensors. The first and second connection members are brought into contact with each other by being urged by a spring.

    Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes a platen for placing the original, a reading device for reading the original placed on the platen to obtain image data in a first reading mode or a second reading mode; a transport device for transporting the original to be capable of returning the original to the platen; and a detection device for determining whether the image data read by the reading device is a first kind of data or a second kind of data. A control device operates the transport device for ejecting the original and outputting the image data read in the first reading mode when the image data is the first kind, and operates the transport device to return the original to the platen and actuates the reading device to read in the second reading mode when the image data is the second kind.
