    Abstract: An electron gun 100 is disclosed for use in an apparatus, such as a TWT, having a body 210 along which a beam of electrons emitted by the electron gun 100 travels during use. The electron gun 100 comprises a housing for forming a vacuum seal with the body 210 of the apparatus, a cathode assembly (160, Fig. 2) within the housing for generating electrons, an anode 110 towards which the electrons are accelerated and a hole in the anode 110 to permit the accelerated electrons to pass into the body 210 of the apparatus. The housing serves as the anode (160) of the electron gun 100 and an insulator lining at least part of the housing wall is provided to shield the housing electrically from the cathode assembly (160). Forming the anode as part of the evacuated body of the apparatus reduces the number of required fabrication steps.

    Abstract: A neutral particle generator is disclosed that includes a container which holds a material in at least a partial plasma state, for example a Deuterium plasma. In one form, a first cathode is positioned within the container and produces a first beam of neutral particles directed away from the first cathode. Optionally, a second cathode is also positioned within the container and produces a second beam of neutral particles directed away from the second cathode, and/or a target is also positioned within the container. In one form, the first cathode and the second cathode are linearly opposed so that the first beam interacts/collides with the second beam resulting in fusion reactions of at least some of the neutral particles, which thereby results in generation of emitted neutrons.
