Abstract:
An electrorheological material comprising a carrier fluid and an atomically, polarizable particle component. The atomically polarizable particle component has a crystalline lattice structure which allows atoms to shift position with respect to each other in response to the application of an electric field. The electrorheological materials are subjected to an alternating current electric field at a frequency of at least 500 Hz. The materials exhibit substantial electrorheological activity over a broad temperature range.
Abstract:
A permanent mold casting powdery mold releasing agent according to this invention consists of a granulated or powdery mixture of a lubricant, an organic polymer and a metal soap; wherein the lubricant is coated with the organic polymer or the metal soap. Therefore, the mold releasing agent allows productions of castings of high quality, in a parmanent mold casting work, with good workability and without worsening environmental situations.
Abstract:
A water washable thermally conductive grease useful for thermal coupling of electronic chips and heat sinks in electronic modules comprises a hydrophilic alkylene oxide modified silicone carrier, and up to 90 weight percent of a microparticulate thermally conductive filler. In a preferred embodiment, the thixotropic dielectric composition further comprises an antioxidant and an ionic surfactant to promote wetting/dispersion of the microparticulate filler. The thermally conductive grease is non-corrosive, resistant to shear induced phase destabilization and capable of being washed from module surfaces with aqueous solutions. Substitution of the present hydrophilic based greases for art-recognized solvent washable greases eliminates use of non-aqueous solvents in electronic module processing/reprocessing operations.
Abstract:
Adducts of clay, especially of the smectite variety, most especially bentonite, are prepared with an effective amount of at least one activated mixed metal oxide or oxy-hydroxide (AHMMO) formed by dehydrating hydrotalcite or a mixture comprising magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide, or a crystalline mixed metal hydroxide conforming substantially to the formulaLi.sub.m D.sub.d T(OH).sub.(m+2d+3+n.a) (A.sup.n).sub.a. xH.sub.2 Owhere m is zero to one, D is a divalent metal, d is from zero to 4, T is a trivalent metal, A represents at least one anion or negative-valence radical of valence n, where n is 1 or more, (m+2d+3+n.a) is equal to or greater than 3, (m+d) is greater than zero, and xH.sub.2 O represents excess waters of hydration. These adducts are useful, e.g., in drilling muds and in viscosity modification of a wide variety of fluids.

A powder-lubricated piston is disclosed for diesel engines, particularly adiabatic diesel engines and coal-water slurry fueled diesel engines. Rings are provided for the piston which flex in response to combustion within the combustion chamber.
Abstract:
Contact of acid or alkaline cleaned aluminum surfaces, particularly cans, with a water based composition containing a combination of (i) alkoxylated phosphate esters, (ii) ions of aluminum, zirconium, iron, tin, and/or cerium, (iii) a metal etching component, and (iv) a combination of alkoxylated alcohol and alkoxylated alkyl phenol emulsifiers, gives the surface after drying lowered surface friction without loss of high quality printability and lacquer adhesion and removes any brown spotting on the cans that may have developed during the cleaning or post-cleaning rinses. The cans after treatment are substantially free from any water breaks when rinsed with water. The foaming resistance and storage stability of the water based composition as described above, and of other similar surface friction reducing treatments for aluminum containers, may be advantageously increased by adding a biocidal agent, preferably hydrogen peroxide, and a combination of liquid paraffin, solid wax, and a high molecular weight fatty acid derivative(s) as antifoam agent.
Abstract:
A die-casting powdery mold releasing agent according to this invention is a mold releasing agent comprising a mixture of powdery or granulated mold releasing base material composed of an inorganic compound as used for lubricant in a solid form and an organic compound giving adhesive property to the mold releasing agent, the both having powdery or granulated configurations, or configurations in which the organic compound is covered on the mold releasing base material. The mold releasing agent allows production of castings of high quality, in the die-casting method with good workability and without worsening environmental situations.
