Abstract:
The composite self-lubricating material according to the present invention comprises a metal matrix containing functional additives; the matrix is formed by two components, one forming shells of the functional additives, the other being located in the spaces between the shells.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A lubricating oil containing polytetrafluoroethylene particles and a fluorochemical surfactant which stabilizes the dispersion and creates a molecular surface tension skin on the surface of the oil to reduce volatilization losses during use in an internal combustion engine.
Abstract:
Metal working operations, especially drawing, are facilitated by applying to the metal a composition which provides lubricity thereto and which melts within the range of about 30.degree.-100.degree. C. The composition comprises at least one neutral ester, and preferably a mixture of esters, prepared from polyalkylene glycols and saturated aliphatic alcohols having at least about 10 carbon atoms, and C.sub.12-25 aliphatic monocarboxylic acids and C.sub.4-20 aliphatic polycarboxylic acids. The preferred ester mixtures are prepared from polyethylene glycols, C.sub.14-20 predominantly straight chain alkanols, stearic acid and adipic, azelaic or sebacic acid. Optional ingredients include phosphorus acid salts and antioxidants. The composition may be applied in liquid form and solidifies on cooling to normal ambient and storage temperatures.
Abstract:
Improved internal combustion engine lubrication is obtained by the controlled rate of release of certain solid particles into circulating lubricating oil. Compositions are set forth comprising such solid particles combined with solid thermoplastic polymer having a controlled rate of dissolution in the lubricating oil. Also included are methods and apparatus wherein such solid particles are added to the engine lubricating oil, for example, which involve the filtering system for such oils.
Abstract:
Pesticidal compositions comprised of alkali-metal salts of hydroxymethyldithiocarbamic acids in aqueous media are stabilized by addition of alkaline material thereto.
Abstract:
Antioxidant compositions are prepared by heating in a nonoxidising atmosphere a tetra-aryl hydrazine and combining the rearrangement product with an alkali metal or an alkali metal compound.
Abstract:
NOVEL COMPOSITIONS OF MATTER FORMED OF AMMONIA, HYDRAZINE, AND ORGANIC NITROGEN COMPOUND INTERCALATES AND HEAVY METAL LAYERED CHALCOGENIDES, WHEREIN THE CHALCOGEN IS SELECTED FROM SULFUR, SELENIUM AND/OR TELLURIUM. THE NOVEL INTERCALATED COMPOUNDS DISPLAY ADVANTAGEOUS CARACTERISTICS WHEN UTILIZED AS SOLID LUBRICANTS, AND AS DIFFRACTION GRATING CRYSTALS. CERTAIN OF THE INTERCALATED TRANSITION METAL CHALCOGENIDES ALSO EXHIBIT UNIQUE SUPERCONDUCTIVITY CHARACTERISTICS.
Abstract:
SOLUTIONS OF WATER SOLUBLE AND/OR DISPERSIBLE POLYQUATERNARY, POLYMERIZED, OXYALKYLATED AMINES NOT ONLY OFFER PROTECTION AGAINST ABRASIVE WEAR TO SUBMERGED METAL SURFACES, SUCH AS IN SUBMERSIBLE OIL WELL PUMPS, BUT ALSO THROUGH THEIR ANTI-BACTERIAL AND CORROSION INHIBITING ACTION OFFER PROTECTION AGAINST CORROSIONS AND BACTERIAL DETERIORATION OF THE PUMP. IN ADDITION, BECAUSE OF INCREASED WATER VISCOSITY, THEY ALSO REDUCE FOAMING AND CAVITATION DURING PUMPLING.
Abstract:
Amorphous boron-silicon-nitride ternary nitrides are prepared by reacting boron trichloride (BCl3), silicon tetrachloride (SiCl4), and ammonia. The products are resistant to oxidation; have a surface area greater than 100 m2/gm; and are useful at high temperatures as insulation, catalyst supports, and dry lubricants.
