Abstract:
An aqueous lubricating composition comprising at least one divalent metal nitrate; at least one alkali metal hydroxide; at least one ionic surfactant; and at least one lubricant/release agent. Upon application to aluminum and titanium, the lubricating composition forms a dry film lubricant stable to heating to a temperature of 200 to 400° C., preferably 1100° C.
Abstract:
A biodegradable penetrating lubricant, comprised of: (A) at least one triglyceride oil of the formula: wherein R1, R2, and R3 are aliphatic hydrocarbyl groups containing from about 7 to about 23 carbon atoms; (B) an organic solvent selected from the group comprising: (1) ethyl lactate, (2) soy methyl ester, (3) at least one mineral spirit, and (4) combinations of 1, 2, and 3; and, (C) an antioxidant. Optionally, the lubricant may further include an additive selected from the group comprising: (D) an anti-wear inhibitor; (E) a corrosion inhibitor; (F) a pour point depressant; and, (G) a component chosen from the group comprising: (1) a food grade tackifier; (2) molybdenum disulfide; and (3) a combination of 1 and 2.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to improved gel/grease compositions as well as grease compositions capable of imparting improved corrosion resistance. The grease includes a silica/silicate mixture that can imparts a relatively high pH and corrosion resistant properties to the grease.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for improving the thickener yield in soap thickened polyalphaolefin base oil greases comprising the steps of (a) producing a simple or complex soap thickener in a quantity of a first PAO of viscosity lower than that of the base oil component in the final grease composition to produce a thickened PAO and (b) adding to the thickened PAO a quantity of a second PAO of viscosity higher than that desired of the base oil component in the final grease composition sufficient to produce a final grease product having the desired base oil viscosity.
Abstract:
An improved smoother extreme pressure wear-resistant wheel bearing grease provides high temperature bearing life. These qualities are attributable to a special combination of additives blended in the greases, including: succinate, sulfonate, phosphate, carbonate, and sodium nitrite.
Abstract:
A high performance, environmentally compatible railroad grease effectively lubricates railroad tracks and wheels of railway cars in compliance with environmental rules and regulations. Advantageously, the novel railroad grease is safe for plant life and animals as well as for fish in underground aquifers and nearby streams. The railroad grease desirably comprises a special adhesive polymer and an extreme pressure, anti-wear additive package, preferably a food grade additive package, comprising carbonates combined with sulfates or phosphates.
Abstract:
A high performance cruise missile grease is provided that performs well at extremely cold temperatures and moderately elevated temperatures, as well as under normal operation conditions. The high performance grease comprises: a lithium soap thickener, a synthetic base oil blend of polyalphaolefin and extreme pressure antiwear additives and inhibitors comprising dithiocarbamates, phosphates, and hydroxides.
Abstract:
A high performance lubricating grease effectively lubricates and protects caster rollers and bearings in steel mills and other metal processing mills. The high performance grease has excellent extreme pressure and antiwear qualities and is economical, nontoxic and safe. The high performance grease can comprise a base oil, an aluminum soap thickener, extreme pressure wear-resistant additives comprising tricalcium phosphate and calcium carbonate, and a water-resistant high performance polymer.
Abstract:
A sliding material used under a boundary lubricating conditions or mixed lubricating condition, and having improved, wear-resistance, low-friction property, and seizure-resistance, and consisting of (a) 10 to less than 69% of polyimide and/or polyamide-imide, from more than 30 to 68% of graphite, and, 1 to less than 30% of polytetrafluroethylene, MoS.sub.2, Pb, and/or BN, or (b) 20 to 90% of polyimide and/or polyamide-imide, and from 0.5 to 20% clay, mullite, silica, and/or alumina, and at least 5% and balance of graphite.
Abstract:
The present invention is a fluid which exhibits excellent electrorheological properties at low current densities, at high temperatures, and in the complete absence of absorbed water or water of hydration. In a preferred embodiment, the fluid comprises lithium hydrazinium sulfate dispersed in silicone oil, and in the presence of an appropriate suspension stabilizing agent.
