Abstract:
A process is provided for preventing grease fires, which is particularly useful in steel mills and process mills. In the process, when a flame is ignited and approaches a special grease, the special grease emits carbon dioxide to extinguish the flame and prevents combustion of the grease.
Abstract:
A high performance ballistic grease is used in ammunition and a lubricating process to protect the barrel of a weapon from corrosion and overheating. The ballistic grease, ammunition, and process improve the structural integrity and accuracy of the weapon and are economical, nontoxic, effective, and safe. The preferred ballistic lubricating grease comprises a polyalphaolefin base oil, an amorphous silicon dioxide thickener, and a disodium octaborate tetrahydrate additive.
Abstract:
A high performance lubricating grease effectively lubricates and greases front-wheel drive joints. The front-wheel drive grease has excellent extreme pressure properties and antiwear qualities and is economical, non toxic and safe. In one preferred form, the front-wheel drive grease comprises a base oil, a thickener comprising polyurea and calcium complex soap, and an additive package comprising tricalcium phosphate and calcium carbonate.
Abstract:
Borated hydrocarbylenetriamine amides can be made by borating the appropriate reaction product of a triamine and an organic monocarboxylic acid. They demonstrate friction reducing and/or fuel consumption reducing properties when formulated into lubricants, particularly lubricating oils, and fuels.
Abstract:
A light colored, open gear lubricating grease is formed from:a lubricating base oila clay thickenera combination of a polymer, preferably atactic polypropylene, and a particulate mineral, preferably zinc oxide, as tactifier and filler, andand alkali metal borate as EP additive. The ratio of polymer to mineral, may be from 1.5:1 to 1:1.5. An aromatic disulphide, preferably dibenzyl disulphide, may also be present as an EP additive and, if so, the wt. ratio of borate to disulphide may be from 5:1 to 7:1.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a synthetic post-pickle fluid composition which is useful for treating metal to provide corrosion resistance and act as a lubricant for further metal processing. In the preferred embodiment, the composition contains an aqueous solution of a base and a carboxylic acid. The composition may also include fatty acids, viscosity controllers, i.e., thickeners, extreme pressure additives, and optionally may include a chelating agent. In a second embodiment, the composition contains an aqueous solution of a base and a fatty acid at more then 7 percent of the total composition. Examples of suitable bases include potassium hydroxide, monoethanol amine and diethanolamine. Examples of suitable carboxylic acids are the aromatic carboxylic acids and C.sub.4-16 dibasic carboxylic acids. The composition has a basic pH.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition for use alone or in a lubricating base, comprising a finely divided carbonate of Group IIA metal and a halogenated organic lubricant.
Abstract:
An improved lubricating oil composition comprising a major amount by weight of oil of lubricating viscosity; a minor amount by weight of solid particles effective to improve the lubricating properties of the composition; and a minor amount of a nitrogen containing mixed ester of a carboxy containing interpolymer. This composition provides improved inhibition of sludge and varnish formation in use.
Abstract:
Metal working operations, especially drawing, are facilitated by applying to the metal a composition which provides lubricity thereto and which melts within the range of about 30.degree.-100.degree. C. The composition comprises at least one neutral ester, and preferably a mixture of esters, prepared from polyalkylene glycols and saturated aliphatic alcohols having at least about 10 carbon atoms, and C.sub.12 -.sub.25 aliphatic monocarboxylic acids and C.sub.4 -.sub.20 aliphatic polycarboxylic acids. The preferred ester mixtures are prepared from polyethylene glycols, C.sub.14 -.sub.20 predominantly straight chain alkanols, stearic acid and adipic, azelaic or sebacic acid. Optional ingredients include phosphorus acid salts and anti-oxidants. The composition may be applied in liquid form and solidifies on cooling to normal ambient and storage temperatures.
WHERE R1 and R2 are hydrogen or methyl; R3 and R4 are each an independently selected alkyl group having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms; R5 is the organic residue exclusive of reactive hydroxyl groups of a polyol, p is an integer of from 2 to 6 inclusive and n and m are positive integers independently selected in each chain and whose sum in each chain is from 2 to 20 are prepared by successively reacting boric acid with a glycol monoether and a polyol. These esters are useful as stabilizers and corrosion inhibitors for lubricants and non-aqueous hydraulic fluids.
