The present invention relates to catalysts systems for the polymerization of ethylene and its mixtures with olefins CH 2 =CHR, wherein R is an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl radical having 1-12 carbon atoms, comprising (A) a solid catalyst component comprising Ti, Mg, halogen, and optionally an electron donor compound in a donor/Ti molar ratio lower than 1, (B) an aluminum alkyl compound and (C) a silicon compound of formula R I mSi(OR II )n in which R I is C1 -C20 alkyl group, R II is a secondary or tertiary alkyl group or a cycloalkyl having from 3 to 20 carbon atoms, m is an integer ranging from 0 to 3, and n is (4-m). The catalyst of the invention is suitably used in (co)polymerization processes of ethylene to prepare (co)polymers having narrow Molecular Weight Distribution (MWD) and high activity.

Articles, particularly pressure pipes, having high strength as well as high stiffness and very good impact resistance even at low temperatures can be obtained by using a heterophasic polyolefϊn composition comprising (percent by weight) 70-90% of a random copolymer of propylene with 0.5-6% of 1-hexene, and 10-30% of a polymer of ethylene with a C 3 -C 10 α- olefϊn and optionally a diene, wherein the polymer of ethylene has an ethylene content higher than 45% and an intrinsic viscosity [η] value from 3 to 5 dl/g. A particular advantage of the present invention is that articles comprising the above heterophasic polyolefϊn composition show a low ductile to brittle transition temperature (DBTT).
