Abstract:
Magnesium hydroxide or mixtures of magnesium hydroxide and boron nitride applied, e.g., by spraying in a liquid vehicle onto surfaces of a sheet of a superplastic formable metal alloy facilitate the forming of such sheet material and the removal of the formed sheet material from the forming tool or die.
Abstract:
A swash plate type compressor having a cylinder block with cylinder bores disposed parallel to the axis of the cylinder block. A rotary shaft rotatably mounted within the cylinder block carries an aluminum swash plate. The swash plate is fixed to the rotary shaft and has two facial surfaces and an end surface. The facial surfaces have a coating of between 0.0005 inches to 0.002 inches of a heat curable, cross-linked polyfluoro elastomer bonded directly to the aluminum, a lubricious additive and a load bearing additive. A piston reciprocally fitted within the cylinder bore contains shoes which slideably intervene between the piston and the swash plate facial surfaces and reciprocate the pistons by rotation of the swash plate. The coating on the swash plate permits the use of slow silicon alloy aluminum without the need of metal plating or high finish polishing.
Abstract:
A lubricant and surface conditioner for formed metal surfaces, particularly aluminum and tin beverage containers, reduces the coefficient of static friction of said metal surfaces and enables drying said metal surfaces at a lower temperature. The conditioner includes a water-soluble organic material selected from amine oxides and quaternary ammonium salts, fluozirconate, fluohafnate, or fluotitanate ion, and preferably also phosphate and nitrate ions. Good resistance to damaging the friction reducing effect by overheating and to staining of the domes of treated containers during pasteurization can be achieved.
Abstract:
A composition of matter for use in tribological applications, such as in mechanical seals, bearings and other sliding or rubbing components, which provides good durability and wear characteristics. The material is used in the "softer" one of two relatively sliding members which are in, or may come into, contact with each other during the relative rotation of one of the member s relative to the other. The material is a carbon or carbonaceous formed material, such as is normally used in the manufacture of a primary seal ring in a mechanical seal, and comprises an additive compound which contains at least one compound from a group consisting of neodymium fluoride, praseodymium fluoride, gadolinium fluoride and lanthanum fluoride.

Abstract:
Elastic solids having reversible stress-induced fluidity are prepared, e.g., by combining liquid formulations with a crystalline mixed metal hydroxide conforming substantially to the formulaLi.sub.m D.sub.d T(OH).sub.(m+2d+3+n.a) (A.sup.n).sub.a.xH.sub.2 Owhere m is amount of Li, d is amount of divalent metal D, T is a trivalent metal, A represents at least one anion or negative-valence radical of valence n and a is the amount of A, and xH.sub.2 O represents excess waters of hydration, if any. These make useful coatings. The instantly reversible fluidization of these unique elastic solids may be expressed as:.tau.=ka.epsilon.,When .epsilon.
Abstract:
Lubricating compositions including crystalline boric acid and a base lubricant selected from oils, greases and the like. The lubricity of conventional oils and greases can also be improved by adding concentrates of boric acid.
Abstract:
An electrorheological material comprising a carrier fluid and an atomically, polarizable particle component. The atomically polarizable particle component has a crystalline lattice structure which allows atoms to shift position with respect to each other in response to the application of an electric field. The electrorheological materials are subjected to an alternating current electric field at a frequency of at least 500 Hz. The materials exhibit substantial electrorheological activity over a broad temperature range.
Abstract:
A permanent mold casting powdery mold releasing agent according to this invention consists of a granulated or powdery mixture of a lubricant, an organic polymer and a metal soap; wherein the lubricant is coated with the organic polymer or the metal soap. Therefore, the mold releasing agent allows productions of castings of high quality, in a parmanent mold casting work, with good workability and without worsening environmental situations.
Abstract:
A water washable thermally conductive grease useful for thermal coupling of electronic chips and heat sinks in electronic modules comprises a hydrophilic alkylene oxide modified silicone carrier, and up to 90 weight percent of a microparticulate thermally conductive filler. In a preferred embodiment, the thixotropic dielectric composition further comprises an antioxidant and an ionic surfactant to promote wetting/dispersion of the microparticulate filler. The thermally conductive grease is non-corrosive, resistant to shear induced phase destabilization and capable of being washed from module surfaces with aqueous solutions. Substitution of the present hydrophilic based greases for art-recognized solvent washable greases eliminates use of non-aqueous solvents in electronic module processing/reprocessing operations.
