The higher alkyl esters can also be prepared from the lower alkyl ester, especially the methyl ester, by transesterification with a higher alkanol or polyol. The amides are prepared by usual amidation procedures by reacting a carboxylic acid of formula III, an acid chloride, anhydride or a lower alkyl ester thereof with the appropriate amine. The nitriles corresponding to acids of formula III are prepared as well as some malonate esters derived having the formula V. ##STR3## The compounds are useful as stabilizers of organic materials, especially polyolefins, which deteriorate upon exposure to light and heat.
Abstract:
Ester-containing compositions prepared by reacting a high molecular weight carboxylic acid acylating agent with polyoxyalkylene alcohol demulsifiers for aqueous emulsions. The ester-containing compositions are useful as additives in normally liquid fuels and lubricants.
Abstract:
A time fuse for a non-spinning projectile has a pivoted catch connecting a fuse setting member to a setting disc whereby rotation of the member rotates the disc to wind a clockwork spring. A plunger is locked in a housing in the setting member by a movable ball or spring held by a spring-urged inertia block. When the fuse is set, the plunger acts on the catch to disconnect the disc and member upon displacement of the inertia block in response to axial acceleration of the projectile in a piece of ordnance.
Abstract:
Sodium tetraborate based carrier coatings for wire drawing are prepared by dispersing a water insoluble fatty acid metal salt in a sodium tetraborate coating bath. The carrier coatings on rod are made resistant to atmosphere moisture by heating at an elevated temperature.Carrier coatings on wire rod provide a vehicle to pick up the wire drawing lubricant in the soap box and carry the lubricant into the die. Since the coated wire rod is often stored for long periods between coating and drawing it is susceptible to corrosion from atmospheric moisture.
