Abstract: 1307077 Printing cheques and indicating low bank balance ADDMASTER CORP 8 April 1970 16756/70 Headings G4B and G4T A calculator includes means for setting up amounts and printing the same on cheques, means for subtracting such amounts from an accumulator adapted to store an amount corresponding to the bank balance of the calculator's user, and means controlled by the accumulator for preventing operation of the setting means when the amount stored in the accumulator falls below zero. The user is thus reminded to deposit a further amount and this amount can then be entered into the accumulator to reenable the setting means. Setting up and subtracting.-As shown, the setting means comprises sectors 11, Fig. 1, which can be differentially rocked anticlockwise from the home position shown to set printing wheels 14. A cycle of motor-driven main shaft 21 then acts through linkage 22-27 and platen 18 to print the amount on a cheque in slot 31. Rotation of shaft 21 also acts through cam 95, Fig. 9, to raise a pin 96 which shifts a frame 56, Fig. 2, carrying the accumulator 51, Fig. 1, to engage the latter with pinion 61. On further rotation of shaft 21, teeth 97, Fig. 9, engage teeth 98 on a member 8 to rotate the latter clockwise to return the set sectors 11 to home position through the agency of universal bar 7. During such resetting, racks 63 on sectors 11 act through pinions 62, 61 to subtract the amount set from the accumulator. Disabling when overdrawn.-The highest order wheel of the accumulator carries a cam 100, Fig. 4, which presents a low region 110 to a lever 101 when the amount stored in the accumulator becomes negative. A rod 103 is thus pulled to the right to rock a lever 104, Fig. 9, clockwise so that a lug 106 coacts with a stop 107 and prevents depression of bar 7 and consequently operation of the sectors 11. Adding.-Movement of a lever 152 to position 152a, Fig. 1, performs three operations to condition the calculator for adding a deposited amount into the accumulator. Firstly, pin 96, Figs. 2 and 9, is moved axially away from cam 95 to prevent engagement of the accumulator with pinions 62, 61 during resetting of the sectors in the next machine cycle. Secondly, rack 113 is depressed and acts through pinions 115, 120, cam 122 and pin 123 to engage the accumulator with pinions 62, 61. Thirdly, rack 114 is moved to the left to rock lever 104 and thus re-enable the sectors 11. The amount to be added is now set up on sectors 11 and is entered directly (not on the return stroke of the sectors) into the accumulator. The main shaft 21 is now driven through one cycle to reset all components for further normal subtraction operation.

Abstract: 982, 800. Ten-key adding machines. ADDMASTER CORPORATION. Sept. 3, 1962 [Sept. 25, 1961], No. 33697/62. Heading G4B. The Specification describes the pin carriage used in the adding-listing machine described in Specification 971,662. The pins are received in one-piece body 321 moulded of plastic comprising formers 328 having slots 333 for the pins, and webs 320 of smaller cross-section than the formers. The body is bent about an axis parallel to the formers and inserted between arcuate frame members 322, lugs 331 on the body engaging slots 332 in the frame members. The frame slides on a shaft 331 and is supported at its upper end by the engagement of an extension 34 is a slot in a machine frame member (not shown). By means of the extension the carriage can be returned to home position manually. The pins are formed in strips as in Fig. 6 each pin having a pair of legs 360 so spaced as to engage frictionally the walls of the slots 333. Strips of pins are slotted into the formers 328 and are then separated into the individual pins by a set of rotary cutters having blades shaped so as to remove the sections between the lines 361. Automatic carriage return: The pin carriage carries a stud 102 (Fig. 8) embraced by a lever 340 pivoted at 341 and spring biased so as to force the usual escapement pins against the stop (not shown). A cam operated plate 349 rocks a bellcrank 351 also pivoted at 341, first anticlockwise, when a pawl 352 rides over a lug 357 on lever 340, and then clockwise, when the pawl 352 engages lug 357 and causes lever 340 to return the pin carriage to home position. During this movement a cam surface (not shown) resets the set pins.

Abstract: A squeeze type printer for papers or stacks of papers having varying thicknesses wherein a printing platen is advanced to impress the paper against type bearing members by a yieldably driven cam element connected in series with a positively driven cam element. The yieldably driven cam element is self-locking and acts to advance the paper or paper stack against the type bearing member. Concurrently, the positively driven cam element acts to further advance the paper to cause the printing impression.

Abstract: 1496913 Selective printing ADDMASTER CORP 25 July 1975 [25 July 1974] 31262/75 Heading B6F A squeeze printer includes a flexible platen 143, which impresses a paper held in receptacle 37 against type wheel 11, and an actuating roll 56 eccentrically movable on shaft 50 for so moving the platen 143 via interposer 57. Each type wheel 11 on the shaft 12 is rotatable by a sector 18, which is stepped by pawl 27 when the selected character on the wheel 11 arrives in the print position. The type wheels 11 are in groups, there being one platen and interposer per group. The platens 143 are of thin, hard, flexible material and the interposers have heads 58 of elastomer. Actuator 67, when energized, removes an interposer 57 to the dotted line position so preventing impression of its associated group of type wheels 11.

Abstract: 1,221,755. Ten key calculating machine. ADDMASTER CORP. 19 March, 1969 [24 April, 1968], No. 14452/69. Heading G4B. A ten key cyclically operated calculating machine having differential actuators 26 and a movable stop-pin carriage 13 has co-operating surfaces 61, 62, respectively, on the actuators and pins 14 which cam set-pins from their set positions so as to enable the carriage to move back to its original position before the actuators have been fully retracted. The machine is a modification of that disclosed in Specifications 971,662 and 975,856. Each actuator 26 has a chamfered edge 61 as have two adjacent gear teeth 35 at point 59 so that the edges engage with the chamfered edges 62 of the set stop pins 14 and the pins are cammed over the actuators. Where a pin is not cammed by an actuator it is cammed into its retracted position by a stationary cam member on the machine frame.
