Abstract: 407,416. Treatment of growing plants. CASE RESEARCH LABORATORY, Inc., 203, Genesee Street, Auburn, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Case, T. W. ; Auburn, and Couch, F. L. ; Cascade-on-Owasco, Auburn, New York, U.S.A.) Sept. 29, 1932, No. 27041. Convention date, Aug. 25. [Class 6 (ii).] A method of treating a tree having a section of bark removed consists in inserting a non-living fluid-transferring medium in the space from which the bark has been removed and securing it in position with its edges in substantial contact with spaced edge portions of the bark. The bark and cambium layer are cut away to provide upper and lower straight edges 3, 4, rows of tacks are driven into the bark near the edges 3, 4, and cotton wicking, linen strips, or the like 7 is wound up and down around the tacks so as to form a continuous layer covering the part from which the bark has been removed. Tape.8 or the like is then wound loosely round the wicking and the upper and lower parts of the latter cut off at the edges 3, 4 and the tacks removed. Wicking or the like 9 is then wound round the tree above and below the tape 8, and the wicking 7 damped with water or other fluid. Finally a covering 10 of cheese-cloth or the like is wound on and the whole rendered impervious to light, air, and water by covering or impregnating with waterproof paint &c. In another arrangement wicking is secured in a recess in the bark by staples and is covered with transparent material. Sunlight may be excluded by a skirt-like member which may be lifted to permit of inspection of the wicking. Medicine or dye may be placed on the wicking. Specification 407,417 is referred to.
