Abstract:
A propeller blade assembly including a propeller blade having a leading edge, and a trailing edge extending between a tip and a hub, and an electrically conductive band extending longitudinally on either or both of the leading edge and trailing edge. The electrically conductive band secured to the leading edge of the propeller serves as an entry point on the aircraft and conductive channel into the airframe thereby avoiding the potentially damaging effect of the lightening on the carbon fiber composite propeller.
Abstract:
A structure for use with an electrothermal heating element is disclosed comprising a heating element contained in a mat and heater supports attached to one surface of the mat. The heating element is disposed between the skin and internal structure of an aircraft with the heater supports disposed toward the internal structure thereof. The heater supports maintain an insulating layer of air between the mat and the internal structure of the aircraft.
Abstract:
A static charge drain system for an aircraft window includes a resistive probe penetrating an outer ply of the aircraft window, a first end of the probe being exposed at an outer surface of the outer ply of the aircraft window. A second end of the probe penetrates an inner surface of the outer ply of the aircraft window. A conductive drain element is disposed between the outer ply of the aircraft window and an inner ply of the aircraft window and is electrically connected between the second end of the probe and a ground point of the aircraft window.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to an Operational Flight Efficiency Evaluation (OFEE) system for an aircraft. The system comprises an Avionics Situation Awareness Device (ASAD). The ASAD includes one or more processors, a memory communicatively coupled to the one or more processors, and a flight data collection interface configured to, via the one or more processors, collect empirical flight data for a flight and store the empirical flight data in the memory. The OFEE also includes a Simulation And Comparison System (SACS) in communication with the ASAD. The ASAD includes a database communicatively coupled to a National Airspace System (NAS). The database is also configured to automatically acquire and store avionics systems available for flight efficiencies from the NAS. The ASAD also includes a simulator configured to identify at least one avionics upgrade based on the collected empirical flight data and the avionics systems available for flight efficiencies.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a system for improved control of movement for adjusting position of an articulating aircraft seat. In an embodiment, a caliper brake engages a brake pad against a braking surface for stopping seat movement. The braking surface is linearly aligned with a desired direction of seat movement. A biasing mechanism maintains the brake pad against the braking surface to prevent movement of the seat. A release actuator counteracts the biasing mechanism for releasing the brake pad from the braking surface to allow seat movement.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are described for automatically counteracting undesirable aircraft movement caused by malfunctioning fly-by-wire aircraft control surfaces, hardover events, control surface disconnection, and other control surface failure events. The systems and methods include control law algorithms for reacting to such events to counteract the undesired aircraft movement. An expected roll rate is generated based on control input and compared to the actual roll rate of the aircraft.
Abstract:
Systems, methods and computer-storage media are provided for displaying a real-time image in a cockpit of an aircraft. Use of a synthetic vision application is provided with a gradient-type feature such that a level of synthetic enhancements applied to an image may be adjusted to a synthetic vision application value that is less than 100 percent. The synthetic vision enhancement may be overlaid with the original image, according to the synthetic vision application value, to generate a modified image. Additional information may overlay the original image with the synthetic vision application such as a three-dimensional weather representation. The synthetic vision application may be used in conjunction with a high-definition camera to generate the original image. The modified image may be updated in real-time such that an updated view is continuously modified with an updated synthetic vision enhancement to provide accurate real-time views.
