    Abstract: An automotive transmission includes a first gear (1) adapted to be driven by an input shaft, a transfer gear (5) driven by the first gear, and a second gear (9), driven by the transfer gear, adapted to drive an output shaft, wherein the transfer gear comprises a compound gear having formed thereon first and second sets of gear teeth (3 and 7 respectively), one set being in engagement with the first gear and the other set being in engagement with the second gear, and the first and second sets of teeth being different in number. The gear train (1, 3, 7, 9) may be interposed between the vehicle engine and gearbox, and a spacer plate (Figures 2 and 3) formed by a thick gasket may be provided between the clutch housing and engine/transmission assembly to accommodate the extra width of the compound gear.

Class 38(4) The D.C. current supplied to a variable load (for the cathodic protection of buried oil-pipe lnies) is regulated by a saturable reactor connected in series between an A.C. supply and a metal rectifier supplying the load, the reactor being controlled in accordance with the voltage drop across itself and either the input or the output voltage. The reactor 13 is in series with the supply to the transformer 9 and rectifier 2, and has a control winding supplied from a rectifier 18 according to a proportion of the voltage across the reactor (tapped off an auto-transformer 19) and the voltage across the primary of the transformer 9. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the first voltage is tapped off the reactor winding itself, and the second voltage is tapped off the primary of transformer 9. In a further modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the first voltage is tapped off the reactor and the second voltage is tapped off an input transformer.

    Abstract: An electrical safety device 10, electrical appliance 12 or electrical power supply comprising a high voltage circuit having an electrical inlet terminal, an electrical outlet terminal and a high voltage switch. The device may be integrated into a piece of furniture such as a desk 14. When the high voltage switch is closed, the electrical inlet terminal 18 receives high voltage electrical power from a high voltage power supply 23, and delivers high voltage electrical power to the electrical outlet terminal 20. A safety isolation switch 22 may be provided in the high voltage circuit between the electrical inlet terminal 18 and the electrical outlet terminal 20. The electrical safety device 10 further comprises a control unit 30 in communication with the safety isolation switch 22, the control unit 30 being operable to detect a short circuit in the high voltage circuit when the high voltage switch is open. If a short circuit is detected, the control unit 30 is operable to open the safety isolation switch 22 such that the electrical outlet terminal 20 is isolated from the electrical inlet terminal 18. This prevents a user from needing to access an RCD or fuse which is in an inconvenient location.
