Abstract: A door stop, intended in use to hold shut an inward opening door and/or to allow the door to be opened only to a limited extent, is also retractable to allow the door to be fully opened and closed without hindrance; and comprises a barrel (2) which, in use, is screwed or otherwise fixed to the floor or the wall reveal adjacent the closing edge of the door and inside the room or other area to which the door gives access, via bores (4); a spigot (6) which, when the door is to be held shut, protrudes from the barrel to bear against or adjacent the room-facing surface of the door and which, when the door is to be opened and closed without hindrance, is retractable into the barrel so as not to impede the passage of the door edge; means (7A) enabling the spigot to be moved alternately into its protruding and its retracted positions by a user's hand or foot; and means tending positively to retain the spigot in its protruding position once the spigot has been moved into that position; the spigot (6) comprising a substantially flat bar, and the means enabling the spigot to be moved into and out of its protruding position including a pivot linking one end of the bar to the barrel so that the bar swings about the pivot into and out of the barrel; the means tending to positively restrain the spigot including a tongue (7A), pivotally attached to the spigot, and, at one end, pivotally and slideably mounted in the barrel; the means also including a stop which restricts the sliding movement of the end of the tongue in the barrel.

Abstract: 668,039. Screw propellers. SMITH, J.S. May 24, 1950, No. 13073/50. Class 114. The propeller blade is divided into areas 5, 6, and 7 of differing pitches by steps 3. 4 which extend partially across the width of the blade and are deepest at the leading edge. The edges of the steps may be either straight or curved.

Abstract: 542,896. Wood spills ; wood-working planes. SIMPSON, J. March 5, 1941, No. 2974. [Classes 61 (ii) and 145 (ii)] [Also in Group XII] Wood spills in the form of spirally wound shavings A, Fig. 6, with overlapping convolutions are formed by a plane D from a block C, the lower surface of the plane being V-shape so that in use the plane is tilted at an angle of 45 degrees. The iron E has an inclined cutting edge which lies obliquely in one surface of the V. The wedge F has a curved end to shape the shaving as shown. The iron and wedge completely fill the slot of the plane. An opening d 3 permits the shaving to emerge. A composite shaving may be formed from two pieces of wood clamped side by side. The plane may be mechanically actuated, as in Fig. 18, an extension G on the plane running on a guide plate G 1 to which the wood C is clamped by a plate g, a spring g 1 pressing the wood upwards. The plane is reciprocated by a rod connecting it to the circumference of a rotating wheel.

Abstract: 448,348. Band clips. HIGGS, J. S., 61, Charlemont Avenue, West Bromwich. Dec. 12, 1934, No. 35638. [Class 44] A clip for securing hose pipes &c. comprises two loops 1 of wire having their ends formed into eyes 2 to provide bearings for swivelling members 3, 4, member 4 carrying a tightening screw 5 the reduced end of which is engaged in an aperture in member 3. Member 3 is shorter than member 4 so that in use the ends of the clips may be overlapped and the screw exerts thrust to tighten the clip. The eyes 2 are completed by brazing, welding, &c., and the wire is preferably of circular crosssection to facilitate securing the eyes against axial movement on members 3, 4 by forming terminal heads on said members after their reduced ends have been inserted. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which the tightening screw is replaced by an eccentric 13 exerting thrust on a sliding bar 15. According to the Provisional Specification the band may be of strip material having one end narrowed to form a tongue engaging a slot near the other end.

Abstract: 442,276. Firelighters. SIMPSON, J., 128, Allan Place, Motherwell Road, Bellshill, Lanarkshire. Sept. 24, 1935, No. 26483. [Class 50] Wood firelighters comprise four longitudinal pieces a, a, c, c, separated at each end by a transverse piece b and two looking pieces d, each with two recesses or notches which engage with two of the longitudinal pieces so as to hold the structure firmly together. Three additional pieces g, h, k may be introduced at each end. The locking pieces d of soft or inferior wood are applied when the original six pieces are held in a press. Specifications 5506 /06 and 18697/13, [both in Class 50], are referred to.
