    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for distinguishing energy bands of photons, which miniaturize a photon counting detector to distinguish energy bands of photons in multi-energy radiation for providing a high resolution image.SOLUTION: The apparatus for distinguishing energy bands of photons, which distinguishes and counts photons in multi-energy radiation incident onto a sensor with respect to each energy band and includes a readout circuit, includes: an integrator configured to receive and accumulate an electric signal from the sensor, that has undergone photoelectric conversion from a photon; a comparator configured to compare the electric signal accumulated by the integrator with one of a plurality of threshold values; and a signal processor configured to instruct sequential switching from one of the plurality of threshold values to another one of the plurality of threshold values according to the comparison result and output a digital signal that distinguishes an energy band of the photon on the basis of results of sequential comparisons with respective switched threshold values, which are inputted from the comparator.
