    Abstract: A mechanical pipette having a fixed stroke for aspirating and discharging a predetermined volume of liquid into and from a reservoir. A measuring piston controls the volume of liquid drawn into the reservoir and a substantially larger piston assures that all of the liquid in the reservoir is expelled therefrom on a discharge stroke. On the discharge stroke, a mechanically actuated valve is opened to admit air being compressed by the substantially larger piston into the reservoir.

    Abstract: 1411424 Manual pipette MEDICAL LABORATORY AUTOMATION INC 4 Oct 1972 [4 Oct 1971] 45685/72 Heading B1X A manual pipette comprises a pipette body having a permanent tip for insertion in a disposable tip member and a de-tipping member slidably mounted on the body and movable between a normal position, away from the tip, and a tip dislodging position. As shown, the tapered end of tube 10 is wedged into a disposable tip 40. The maximum engaging force is that exerted by compression spring 33 when the end of the movable sleeve 37 meets the flange of tip 40. The plunger assembly, comprising piston 21 fitted into a finger actuated cap 22, is depressed until flange 25 strikes shouder 26 expelling a volume of air from tube 10. The tip 40 is then inserted into the liquid and the plunger is released. Compression spring 24 moves the assembly to the position shown drawing a volume of liquid into the tip. After discharge, the tip is removed by holding sleeve member 30 and pushing grip 12 to compress spring 33, retracting tube 10 within sleeve 37 until the tip strikes sleeve 37 and is pushed off.

    Abstract: 1350543 Packaging pipette tips MEDICAL LABORATORY AUTOMATION Inc 19 June 1972 [17 June 1971] 28592/72 Heading B8C A package of pipette tips 37 comprises a first tray 36 having apertures through which pipette tips project, each of the tips having supporting ribs 41 for supporting the tips in the first tray, a second tray 36 having apertures through which pipette tips project, the second tray being supported above the first tray by the tips therein, the tips in the second tray also having supporting ribs 41 for supporting the tips in the second tray, the length of the ribs on tips in the second tray being such that when the second tray is stacked on the first tray, the tips in the second tray project into, but do not touch the internal walls of the tips in the first tray. As shown, the stacked trays 36 are enclosed in an inner carton 21 which is closed by a sleeve 22, the bottom tray 36 of the stack resting on a member 43. The sleeve 22 is provided with a tear-out portion 23 to provide an opening which is aligned with a cut out 35 in the carton 21 such that an empty carton may be used as a receptacle for used tips. Each tip is removed from its tray by pressing a pipette into the tip for frictional engagement therewith and the used tip is removed from the pipette by engagement of the tip with a member (46), Figs. 8, 9 (not shown), which is inserted into the opening and wedging the tip off the pipette barrel, the member (46), which may be made of nylon, being formed with two sets of wedges (51) and (53) to cater for pipettes of different diameters.

    Abstract: A package of disposable pipette tips in which tapered pipette tips are supported on trays by projecting through apertures provided in the tray and in which the trays have sidewalls that extend downwardly from the tip supporting surface of the tray a distance greater than the distance the pipette tips project through the supporting surface. The sidewalls of the trays may be configured such that the bottom edge of the sidewall of a tray is supported by a shoulder formed in the sidewall of a tray on which the first tray is stacked. When the trays are thus stacked, the pipette tips on one tray project into the pipette tips on the tray below.
