Abstract:
A network node selects a “sleep” level based on its current or projected battery capacity. In an embodiment of the invention, sleep levels define the types of communication to which the node in question will be a party. The node in question communicates its selected sleep level to the rest of the network so that the other network nodes can communicate accordingly with the node.

Abstract:
A direct view display provides a light modulating panel and a backlight including first and second sets of spectral emitters. The first set of spectral emitters generate a first light bundle and the second set of spectral emitters generate a second light bundle. Several modes of operation may be provided including (1) an advanced 2D mode, (2) an enhanced color gamut mode employing simultaneous illumination of the first and second set of spectral emitters, (3) a privacy screen mode, (4) a channel multiplexed mode, and (5) a stereoscopic image mode. The latter three modes utilize the first and second set of spectral emitters to alternately illuminate a portion of the light modulating panel. Images and representations generated by the direct view display operating in the latter three modes are viewed using appropriate eyewear having filters with passband characteristics to transmit the respective light bundle.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the polynucleotide sequence of the Hydrocephalus-associated gene (Hydin), the polypeptide it encodes and uses therefore. The invention also relates to the mutation in the Hydin gene that is responsible for the development of hydrocephalus. The invention provides for methods of diagnosing hydrocephalus and cilia dysfunction-related disorders.
Abstract:
A polarization beam splitter (PBS) and combiner includes a multilayer birefringent stack adjacent to a dichroic coating, sandwiched between glass prisms. This configuration overcomes the reflected wave distortion associated with a conventional multilayer birefringent cube PBS while maintaining excellent polarization performance. An exemplary application of the PBS and combiner is in a four-port LCOS imaging system. LCOS projection architectures based on the PBS are also disclosed.

Abstract:
A method for computing a high resolution gray-tone image from a sequence of low-resolution images uses an L1 norm minimization. In a preferred embodiment, the technique also uses a robust regularization based on a bilateral prior to deal with different data and noise models. This robust super-resolution technique uses the L1 norm both for the regularization and the data fusion terms. Whereas the former is responsible for edge preservation, the latter seeks robustness with respect to motion error, blur, outliers, and other kinds of errors not explicitly modeled in the fused images. This computationally inexpensive method is resilient against errors in motion and blur estimation, resulting in images with sharp edges. The method also reduces the effects of aliasing, noise and compression artifacts. The method's performance is superior to other super-resolution methods and has fast convergence.
Abstract:
Described are tilted compensators for compensating for in-plate and out-of-plane retardances of LC panels in their dark states, including a single tilted biaxial retarder or compound retarder comprising more than one biaxial film, which are effective to compensate both for nonideal polarization effects of LC panels and other optical components in optical projection systems. Also described are tilted compensators for deflecting away from a projection system optical path unwanted reflected light.
Abstract:
Described are stereoscopic eyewear, methods and systems for manufacturing the same. The stereoscopic eyewear includes right- and left-eye filters for analyzing stereoscopically-encoded polarized light. The filters are made using a roll-type polarizer having an absorption axis. A polymer alignment layer is deposited on a portion of the roll-type polarizer. A liquid crystal polymer (LCP) layer is deposited on the polymer alignment layer. The polymer alignment layer and LCP layer provides at least one retarder having an optic axis at a predetermined angle to the absorption axis of the roll-type polarizer. Described embodiments include a polymer alignment layer that may include at least one of a linearly photopolymizerable polymer (LPP), a brushed or rolled polyimide.

A method, system, and computer-readable medium for generating travel options along a route are provided. The method includes identifying a plurality of conveyances with each having associated booking information in response to a request for travel. The method also includes generating a trip value table in response to the request, wherein the trip value table includes booking information and historical information for comparable conveyances. The method further includes outputting the conveyances, associated booking information, and trip value table.
