Abstract: A method for determining Richardson Number, Ri, or its reciprocal, RRi, for clear air prediction using measured potential temperature and determining the vertical gradient of potential temperature, d theta /dz. Wind vector from the aircraft's instrumentation versus potential temperature dW/d theta is determined and multiplied by d theta /dz to obtain dW/dz. Richardson Number or its reciprocal is then determined from the relationship Ri = k [d theta DIVIDED dz + (dW DIVIDED dz) ] for use in detecting a trend toward a threshold value for the purpose of predicting clear air turbulence. Other equations for this basic relationship are disclosed together with the combination of other atmospheric observables using multiple regression techniques.

[Also in Division C4] Compositions for coating metals, particularly steel, by e.g. spraying comprise zinc dust and an aqueous potassium silicate of SiO 2 :K 2 O moll ratio 4.8-5.3:1. Preferably the compositions contain 56-82% by wt. zinc dust of particle size less than 50Á, 17.6-41% of an aqueous potassium silicate of 19-23% by wt. solids, and 0-3% of a lower alkyl alkoxysilane e.g. methyl trimethoxy silane. The steel surface may be pretreated with phosphoric acid or by sand blasting.

Abstract: Electroactive actuation characteristics of novel BNNT based materials are described. Several series of BNNT based electroactive materials including BNNT/polyimide composites and BNNT films are prepared. The BNNT based electroactive materials show high piezoelectric coefficients, d 13 , about 14.80 pm/V as well as high electrostrictive coefficients, M 13 , 3.21x1O-16 pm2/V2. The BNNT based electroactive materials will be used for novel electromechanical energy conversion devices.

Abstract: The present invention provides an electronic apparatus, such as a lighting device comprised of light emitting diodes (LEDs) or a power generating apparatus comprising photovoltaic diodes, which may be created through a printing process, using a semiconductor or other substrate particle ink or suspension and using a lens particle ink or suspension. An exemplary apparatus comprises a base; at least one first conductor; a plurality of diodes coupled to the at least one first conductor; at least one second conductor coupled to the plurality of diodes; and a plurality of lenses suspended in a polymer deposited or attached over the diodes. The lenses and the suspending polymer have different indices of refraction. In some embodiments, the lenses and diodes are substantially spherical, and have a ratio of mean diameters or lengths between about 10: 1 and 2: 1. The diodes may be LEDs or photovoltaic diodes.
