Lifting weight off springs.- In vehicles having hydraulically-operated three-way tipping-devices, the device is controlled from one point and by means of one operating lever only in such a manner that prior to the tipping proper there is operated inter alia the automatic engagement of the spring support device. The apparatus is mounted in a frame adapted to be readily attached to the chassis of a vehicle and comprises a working cylinder 1, Fig. 8, horizontally and rotatably mounted in bearings 2, a control cylinder 8 mounted fixedly and coaxially with the cylinder 1, a control piston 11 slidable and partially rotatable in the control cylinder 8, an operating lever 13 and gate 12, a pressure tank 37, and a collecting tank 42. A cylinder 3 having a spring-controlled piston 4 is provided for operating the spring support 6, Fig. 1, whereby the weight during tipping is lifted from the springs of the vehicle. The working cylinder 1 is provided with a piston 16 having trunnions 21 for bell-crank levers 18, Fig. 1, and a tubular piston 17 and guide tube 7. In Fig. 10, the apparatus is shown in the position occupied when the vehicle is in travelling position, and to effect rearward tipping the control piston or member 11 is brought by the lever 13 to the position shown in Fig. 8 and partially rotated to bring the pressure fluid in the tank 37 in communication with the interior of the control member 11. The pressure fluid passes through a port 62 to a channel 62 and a port 62" through the piston 17 to press back the piston 4, operate the spring support 6, and release the flaps of the vehicle and then to force the piston 16 forwards to tip the vehicle. This action by the movement of the piston 17 closes the admission ports into the working cylinder 1. Partial rotation of the control piston 11 brings it in communication with the collecting tank 42, and the weight of the tipped receptacle causes it to return to normal position, and as the pressure falls, the piston 4 is withdrawn to relook the flaps of the vehicle and release the spring supports 6, Fig. 1, and the working piston 16 is forced to the rear.
